Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Who's worried?

Who's worried about tomorrow and the IBM's quarterly results?

What are the chances we are going to be surprised with good enough results that will not have us worry about more layoffs?

I know, I know, not a chance. Let the guy hope, though.

The reality is that come tomorrow, chances are we'll be looking at more announced cuts.

As I've mentioned on this site before, IBM is rarely considered by companies planning their IT future directions. People in IT know you're taking a risk with any software, services or cloud solution they pedal. They're continuing to mask exactly where these "people cuts" are happening ... and that should scare anyone in a position to cut a PO. In the long run, IBM will need to exert an enormous amount of effort just to gain or gain back customer trust and confidence. So, as of this writing, they may post a favorable 1Q 2018 number today however, as far as future quarterly results go, I just don't see it. Five years from now they will have re-trench to a smaller version of themselves. If you're an IBM employee or contractor, no matter what age you are, you need to actively look elsewhere for employment that maps to your skill sets. Life is too short to be treated the way they treat people; ignoring those responsible for their past success. Nothing will change until there's a new CEO and executive staff to re-set things. Sad.

Worry & be happy! More RA’s coming, next one in early July from what I am hearing.

Times have changed, there is no loyalty towards employees and layoff will happen even if the company does well since higher profits are expected next quarter.

What, me worry? (Mad)

Same old song and dance every time. Then the CEO talks about how IBMers need to work harder, tighten our belts, blah blah blah. How about it's time you start giving incentives for IBMers to work harder, like pay increases and bonuses. Trimming staff and making the remaining workers pick up all the slack whilst not getting anything for it is complete BS. I think it's gotten to the point that nobody really cares anymore about IBM's threats of layoffs. You can only take so much and being stagnant is not good for anyone's career so most people are looking to jump off the Titanic anyway.

I thought Bain was going to really clean up the middle mgmt bloat?

Another broken promise it seems.

Right at the top the article annoyed me: "The tech giant saw revenue growth in the December quarter after several quarters of mixed results and revenue declines." SEVERAL? Tell the truth and say 22.

IBM has levers to make their numbers. Those levers just happen to include laying off staff.

There is nothing to worry about. They will be a disaster. Why worry? Nothing new.
