Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Musings of a Layoff/Downsizing Survivor

Wait until around November - Thanksgiving time - before some really serious stuff happens - if it is supposed to happen. I've survived 6 or 7 layoffs/downsizings over the last 20 years. Yes, Xerox lays off or makes periodic adjustments throughout the years, but major stuff always happens around the holidays in preparation to make the 4th quarter reports to stockholders appear more rosy and to write off 1-time restructuring charges to boost stock prices. Best thing you can do while waiting for the Fuji Xerox merger chips to fall into place and trickle down to department level is to prepare yourself especially if you are older and approaching retirement. Start saving like crazy, pay off your debts, sell your pricey "impress thy neighbor" BMW, dust off your resume, check in with industry contacts. I see a lot of empty "brick and mortar" buildings in Wilsonville, OR as well as Webster, NY and we are emptying employees out of the Rochester, NY downtown Square and consolidating into empty cubicles in Webster. A key indicator is the shape of the empty parking lots in Webster. They are full of potholes & weeds with a little paved path to a better maintained area of the parking lot. The signs are all there. Final warning - if you have personal stuff on your PC, start cleaning it out and hope for a VRIF vs IRIF.
