Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

If you were to magically become CEO and replace Mollenkopf tomorrow what would you attempt to change?

Like what type of rule I would instill what kind of culture I would form especially in the light of current problems we're facing (from mergers, acquisitions, legal things, take overs, board issues, China, Apple, layoffs, licensing, etc.) I know of course that stuff like this doesn't magically happen over night but in a what if scenario where you had the power to change things internally what would you do?

With all the terrible morale and toxic environment Q needs a charasmatic leader with smarts and wits.

SM resigning would bring a sense of closure to the toxicity and maybe draw a line under the chaos of layoffs pending for 2 months.

Extremely tough for director level guys to drive forward with all this layoff hanging out there. Focus and direction went out the window in 2015 and its been politics and corridor whispers since then. Now we have the added daily stress of waiting for the next round............the quiet layoffs of 20 here, 50 there are awful since it just hits the rumor mill and then you notice some faces gone from ph. You can usually find them a few weeks later on linkedin.

Well if I were SM first thing I would do would be to resign. Like others have pointed out, there were so many missteps it's not even funny.

  • Marketing totally s---s. It s---ed before, but that was because we didn't spend any money. We spent money now and it still s---ed.

  • The "large startup" culture is gone. That was what motivated the top-notch engineers the most and deterred the uninitiated. Now everyone plays by politics and bureaucracy and meaningless meta-work.

  • Seems like people up there didn't understand that morale plays a huge role in productivity. You cannot keep people working hard without motivation; and nothing says "demotivation" more than "hey, we're taking away bottled waters" and hearing "that team got 2 more reqs because they were better at PR" and "you better spend 50% of your time prepare that metric presentation to give to higher-ups otherwise they'll cut your reqs".

  • What's up with all the wrong strategic decisions? Failing early & often is a good sign of innovation, but if you fail 100% of the time then something is wrong...

QUALCOMM needs Apple. That should be the number one agenda. Settle the stupid lawsuit now with an agreement for future sales. Pay them. Give them whatever they want. We need US companies to stick together because this trade war is the only way to control China. Stop penny pinching. Cancel NXP. Do what we do best. We are a communication company, let’s make some damn chips. Why the hell are we fighting our customers. Partner up and kick a--. Stop s---ing up to China.

Prediction: Mollenkopf will be out tomorrow with his golden parachute

Changes: Layoff all the lazy asses that done nothing to help this company other than being best friends with their bosses

Can't wait for tomorrow!!!

He has a nice smile. I think he would be cuter with shorter hair with a little color added so he looks younger. Otherwise ❤️❤️❤️

I do not have a recommendation or a list of steps for you but I’m an almost 30 year employee closing in on retirement. It saddens me what a sh--hole Qualcomm had turned into. It used to be a leading company in everything, a pleasure to work for (despite all my struggles to balance work and life). Those days are long gone. For several years many have tried to point to strategic blunders and grave missteps we keep making, to no avail. We were basically told to sit down and shut the f--- up. My peers are just trying to stick it out until they too can get out and retire. Needless to say, morale is waaaaayyyy down. It's appalling...
