Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Vesting question

Does anyone know if time spent as an in house contractor prior to getting hired on by CVX, is or can be counted towards vesting?

HR BPs are not on the workers’ side. They work to cull the herd.

@3fmg, I’m pretty sure the axe man cameth already for that trolling clown. No sadder clown than one who refuses to move on after being axed. Sad indeed.

I see circus-boy clown-phobia troll 1eqc is trolling the boards again. Work on your resume, son.

Chop-chop! The Axe-man cometh.

To answer the original question, yes. It counts towards your ERISA. Get your data in order, contact your HR BP and tell them you want to apply for it. It may take a while, but eventually they’ll say yes or no. If they say no, wait a few months and do it again.

If you are a contractor, do a good job and are highly regarded, and fill an ongoing business need, then you may be considered for hire. It is most definitely not a certainty. For those contractors, who function for all intents and purposes, as an employee while contracted for services, take primary direction from Chevron supervisors, do not perform work for other businesses during their period of service for Chevron (exclusivity of service), and can find a Chevron employee who will attest to these facts you may qualify for the Leased Employee Service Application. Upon hire, you can submit a form with supporting documentation which if approved, will give you credit for time served and possibly be immediately vested in the company's pension, if you have over five years of approved service prior to hire date. However you wil start your pension with a zero sum. Your time of service can be also be counted toward vacation time and medical benefits. Your official date of hire will be back dated to the approved date your service began as a contractor and your actual hire date will be termed; most recent date of hire.

I know becuase I did the very same thing. It's a great program and I recommend you pursue it if you are hired at some point in the future. However, the approval of your Leased Employee Service Applicaton is also by no means a certainty.

Seems very unlikely but the manager and HR person could potentially find a way around the rules.
