Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

SPVSS Sale Delayed

Buyer realized IL engineers are nothing but whining little babies and have not produced anything of quality in over 5 years. Because Cisco bought them? No. Because NDS covered incompetency by having "custom" solutions everywhere. Custom means everything could be blamed on customer. Now that we are trying to have a single product for all customers we realize it is our product that is crap not the customers fault. IL Exposed.

Buyer wants a discount if they are forced to take IL as part of the package.

It's coming. About 20 services people that focus on video today will go with along with other overlays in the field. Ira knows.

Judging by your comments I presume you are a Cisco kid. The fact is that the STB business is dying, but not dead, and NDS would have probably had to make some tough choices. But that doesn’t change the fact that we were in a much better position to navigate that transition than Cisco ever were. It was a bad fit from the beginning and should have never happened. It was a mistake for both companies.

Oh the glory days of NDS...... of the Glory days of SA........

Truth is Cisco did not destroy them, Cisco saved them from an even faster death.......

STB business is sh-- nowadays, glory days long over. SA would have had to cut most workers anyway and it would have been axe with no compassion, at least with Cisco they got some $ as they left.

NDS same, landscape has changed. X1 and Netflix and Amazon Prime all show that the NDS model was going to die anyway.

All boats can rise when high tide rolls on as did SA and NDS, the problem is Cisco kept the "tide high" by spending $ on a losing business model....without Cisco they would have self imploded years ago.

The Engineers were good, the market was just sh--ty. So stop tying the two together, we actually had (still have) some good engineers.

Who but the jailer loves the infighting of the inmates? Ditto the comment "Just please get on with it !"!!!

The comment with "layes in an intelegnet" does not make any sense and by the way, there is no fishing by anyone at the LWR lake. My perception is the giant has all but destroyed these 2 engineering organizations and maybe that was not even a concern. No vision, no leadership, only an act of scavenging and now selling off the scraps. At this point, it does not matter. We are on the block and awaiting the disposition. Respect to IL, LWR and whoever else has been subjected to this kind of treatment.

Storytellers, your time is elapsed.

Your outstanding skill to articulate layes in an intelegnet way is the most important thing that will be exposed soon.

It's most likely that your routine will not be changed and you will keep "working from home" producing negative value. The only question is who will pay for it?

(The fake news industry is growing so don't give up hope)

Since you aware of your situation, lately you are accelerating the 'falsehood machine' to the escape velocity power that is required to say goodbye.

IVP has challanges, but it's potential is great and without your burden it will prevail.

Soon we are about to be with good F.R.I.E NDS again.

@5ell, so true. IVP team in IL is so incompetent in terms of both tech and domain. They have been too selfish off late to save their own jobs and never had global team work on mind. The management also believed too much in them which shows their immaturity. I hope the new management fixes this sooner in the interest of saving IVP.

IVP is awful. The IL engineering teams should have been LR’ed 3 years ago. They’ve been obstructionist, politicking, under-delivering since day 1.

What do people think is left that has any value?

IVP is piss poor - and has no growth potential.

There’s still some $$$$ in those tedious smart cards.

There’s a fair few decent engineering teams left. And LWR GA has fishing rights on the lake.

Not much left in customer relationships - well not if they’ve met the bunch of Jack Asses known as leadership.

And - folks - that’s it!

So better hope the sale price is fairly low otherwise the lucky buyer will end up disappointed.

Agree. I guess we NDS lot have never fit in with that whole corporate BS mantra. Of course you will get the ‘yes men’ who talk the Cisco talk (and can somehow live with themselves) - but mostly we are a cynical bunch who can’t have the wool pulled over our eyes - no matter how many new ‘leaders’ come and go, spouting their empty sales patter.

This particular ‘marriage’ was dead in the water before the ink was even dry. Best for all if we move on with what little there is left.

Just please get on with it !

Never seen a management team who are so self serving and intent on lining their own pockets as they systematically destroy a business. A management culture riddled with cronyism, vindictiveness, ageism, s-xism, xenophobia and incompetence. God bless US corporate culture.

At the time of acquisition, NDS was profitable, had happy customers and happy employees. Cisco didn't consciously destroy all that, it was just a really poor fit, both organisationally and culturally. The sooner it's divested, the sooner people can start making the best of what's left. FWIW, I don't think the current leadership team will be an asset in that process. The slowly escalating pain and anguish felt by ex-NDS employees is what generates all the talk on here. Plenty have given up, besides all those that had no choice, but most retain an interest, such is the affection for NDS as it was. Those that make accusations of 'whining' etc are a perfect illustration of the cultural chasm. You guys can stay at Cisco, don't worry.

Custom solutions can cover incompetency. This IP is not worthwhile to be repurchased. PE needs to float a new company and take the trusted guys who made nds. Why should they buy a decade old middleware and ca and repatch these. It won't give money. The deal is about something different. To avoid legal complications from customers when announcing middleware support termination
