NYT: G.E. Makes a Sharp ‘Pivot’ on Digital

Is this the end of road for Bill Ruh?

"

A smaller G.E. might not need a stand-alwone digital unit. Some analysts recommend putting all the software in the industrial divisions, like power and aviation, closer to customers.

“San Ramon shouldn’t exist,” said Scott Davis, chief executive of Melius Research, an independent financial analysis firm

Ruh'ed GE. What a waste. Good Idea for each business to organically grow the services that they provide by supplementing income with these types of solutions, however, each business contains the experts that add the value to these products, not a bunch of novice programmers you hire from Walmart. This is the #1 reason our company has not been able to weather the business climate.

GE needs to get rid of all this useless dead weight that is dragging down the company.

GE needs to restore itself to an engineering and manufacturing excellence company, and stop screwing around with all these BS schemes to sell GE hype things that customers view as useless

GE Digital is a JOKE

Disconnected GE management belief that you can write a computer program to replace experts where the program will tell you everything that's wrong with a turbine.

Pure fantasy, and all our customers know it.

The only one who doesn't know what's going on is then GE six sigma management who are pushing this crap

Disconnected, out of touch GE management is the problem

Digital pathetically oversold that a computer program could fix all turbine problems and replace expertise, and experts. When I hear upper management tell our turbine customers at a conference that they could now have people at an answer center who didn't know anything about turbines diagnose their turbine problems by punching in a description of the problem, everyone almost puked.

We see this on job sites, where GE field engineers who don't know anything hand customer a BS Atlanta PAC print out that says that their turbine problem is this because another unit once had this problem. It is almost always bogus, nothing to do with reality, and completely different situation vs the forensics and facts based reasons. There are minor monitoring applications of simple parameters such as oil pressure, and rotor vibration that are useful buy mostly exist in plant DCS systems.

GE management types who know nothing about Power products or services really believes in this BS. They thought they would sell this nonsense to all our customers but they know better and aren't buying it. GE didn't listen to anyone who knew what they were doing and brought in a bunch of six sigma digital types. Now GE Digital is a huge failure, at least with GE Power turbine products and customers.

GE is not a digital company. Sorry, I saw this first hand, all they want to do is outsource programmer resources to India and offshore. Look at best run digital companies , huge stock options are granted to individual contributors and the resources are located for the most part in good USA. Oh, salaries are some of biggest in the country. This blueprint is not GE plain and simple. GE Leadership does not even know how to speak digital.

Clueless analysts speculating on theories not facts. Fact is Prefix turned over 4 billion last year, not the 20 billion immelt speculated on when he promised train $2 a share. Flannery is a stronger fiscal leader than immelt.

Pivot to Zero...

After working in Digital more than a year, I agree. Predix is horrible and it's so far away from what actual developers in the other BUs really need. Wrapping services like redis and postgres and marking up the price is all they can do. And it's still one 9 of availability lol

Would he have survived this long under Jack Welch? Shows how clueless his bosses and board are about strategy.

Zero accountability.
