Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Thank you Bon Ton

Not to tap dance on a neighbor's grave before they are officially in it, but losing a competitor can't be a bad thing.

Why are people trolling each other here? We're all in the same boat, one way or another. Corporate America is an amoral survival game wearing the face of a New York street hustler or used car salesman, and their HR departments (and unions) are there to co-opt and control us. We're in it for our own survival needs too -- I don't know anyone doing this as a hobby -- so when the marketplace is healthy, we all prosper, but when it takes a fall, so do we.

Our mall was milked dry and abandoned years ago by Simon, it's been through foreclosure and a private sale; though all five anchors are still there because they own their respective buildings (not much else left), Macy's & J.C.Penney's are the only two doing any real business. Sears and the AMC24 are moribund, and the "D"-word (Dillards) has a private-buyer/appointment-based sales plan that Macy's has tried to adapt with the My Client and BOPS programs.

Considering the earlier problems, and what they had to work with, yes, Macy's has had to make many drastic changes, many of them uncomfortable. And they are not done yet. But until we have a workable, profitable role for retail in our economy, none of our jobs will be stable or safe.

Never good to lose an anchor in a mall, even a competitor. While you may get more business in the short run, you have to hopemthe mall gets another tenant and gives customers a continuing reason to come to that mall. Or else you end up on the DEAD MALL list in a few years.

I'm the previous poster again. I think the OP could have been more tactful, but I'm witnessing her/his point with my own two eyes and sore legs and feet. Something is going on. We shouldn't be this busy in my department until closer to Father's Day.

@6 dls - I agree. At our store credit apps are higher and our sales are up year over year since right about the time the Carson's across the street went into liquidation back in February. We've been steady to downright busy since mid-March.

You should stick to tap dancing in the men’s room.

To the post about customers leaving in droves, might be true for some regions but for those stores in malls that have/had Carson's they are experiencing credit app numbers at an all time high due to Carson's closing. Numerous customers have come to colleagues wanting to sign up without having to be sold on the benefits

Macy’s is low rent. And watch it...karma comes at unexpected times and bites hard.

Don’t worry, customers are leaving Macy’s in groves. Just a matter of time.

They will soon understand that Macy's is looking at bon ton associates to replace Macy's associates. Bon ton associates are now hungry and Macy's will feed on that

@SRMdUxD Ewww what a cheap shot comment. How low rent of you. Speaks volumes about the leftover Macy's associates.
