Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

More info on incoming layoffs

Alright guys, so I’m really not supposed to talk about this, but I’ve been in the oilfield 40+ years, And I know it’s always better to know then not know. I can’t give directly who’s gonna be laid off next week because it would endanger my own career path,(luckily I’m safe this round) but I can give you an idea. If you’ve been training some one over the past couple months, any at all, that’s not a good thing. If you show up to work everyday and feel as if your just doing “busy work”, that’s not a good thing. If you feel like your department is overcrowded, it won’t be long. If you work for HSE, your more then likely gonna be replaced by contractors(hate to say it but they are cheaper, and will be present more often). If your job could be done by some one off the street(with little or no training) prolly not good, but as long as you don’t meet the other criteria, you may or may not be ok. If you have EVER had a below expectations, goodbye. This is gonna be a big cut as we prepare to move forward. Minimal impact up north, Arkansas will be pretty much cut in half, as for the Houston office cut in half also. If your job isn’t easily replaced , your prolly safe for now as long and your not training some one to do it that is paid equal or less(if it equal, you have sub-par performance, and that’s doesnt cut it this day and age.) I hate this but I would have loved to know information like this, years ago when the company I worked for did mass layoffs with zero notification. So good luck to all!

Don’t run from SWN if you have ample time in. You might as well collect severance and then unemployment. Also, hang in there and enjoy the excitement. When it’s all done, you’ll find another job and because of it all, be a better person.

There will be more layoffs as long as Way is in charge. He has destroyed SWN and is not done! Another round of layoffs will follow this. RUN FROM SWN!

Well, that didn't help any. How/why do you know you are safe this round? 40+ years and still working on your career path? Damn, I bet your salary is pretty high, why not give someone younger a chance? I'm sure there's someone cheaper here that's qualified to do what you do. I know older folks like to think they have so much experience they aren't expendable, but honestly, we all know that's bull sh--.

Managers said same thing before the last round of layoffs, and although why some were let go was obvious, for others it seemed pretty subjective. I'd expect the same this round.

If you have money and can pay someone off, that’s good.
