Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM Sold Obsolete products ~ 700 MIL in IP) to HCL of America

IBM has dragged down partners by selling obsolete products that have had

a downturn in the markets over the past 5 years (substantial decreased sales).

Various partners are laying off ex IBM employees too (that had been a a part of the

transitions plan). Sales continue to decline on various IP products.

It's the S & S stream they bought...they know sales are not growing don't care. Not just an IBM thing plenty of other big software vendors with vaporware or stuff that hasn't been barely touched for decades, just keeping the lights on.

ITX (IBM Transformation Extender), formerly known as WTX (WebSphere Transformation Extender), was sold to HCL in 2017 (January). I don't know if the numbers have shifted since then, but the product had been struggling prior to the sale.

What did IBM outsource to HCL? Tivoli Workload Scheduler, a product that had no meaningful investment for 10 years and was way behind competitive offerings. A few Rational products that have struggled for sales for years, and up against a movement to outsource application testing to a few cheap guys in a backroom in Bangalore. Lotus Notes and Domino that haven't had a market for 15 years against Exchange, Gmail and a raft of new cloud offerings.

This is typical IBM - don't invest in product development for years and then wonder why they aren't competitive.

It sounds like these partners are just doing what IBM does: buy a company, take over the one or two things that are worth anything, and discard the rest including the people. I don't think it drags down the partner because they usually get the IBM trash at a bargain price, or maybe IBM even pays them to take it like Global Foundry.
