The buzz words should be

"why wait" "just run"

Agreed.

This system does not work.

If the ones in charge are not taking the right decisions it will result into a major decline and loss of valuable members.

I've seen it many times.

Wrong leadership=everything falling appart.

I won't be surprised if it happens again.

Interesting indeed. This is a generic pyramid.

Now there is another pyramid with the people at the top, say Directors+ level. That py decides/dictates how the generic py "needs" to live and survive. If "your" generic pyramid is strong but the Director+ level pyramid is weak/not visible/not managed well/weak communication etc., generic pyramid will take the hit for sure. Perhaps this occurred this time around and will likely happen again soon for sure.

If I really think, the more pyramids you have the weaker the company becomes. This appears to be the case with qualcomm.

If you are a strong contributor but belong to wrong pyramid then is time to what ?

Runnnnnnnnnnnnn ....

@1byx, interesting.

Bottom of the pyramid=slaves.

Let the bottom work until you need them and replace them when they are not convenient.

They can always be replaced.

More you go towards the top, more power you have. Just give orders and replace the working force.

The top rules, the bottom executes.

Not all the layoffs were fair.

Some were fair, others were based on favoritism.

Just like everywhere!

Essentially it boils down to the below. Almost like we are in Egypt.

  1. How the pyramid is formed [team/org/group/division]

  2. How good is the one at the bottom for one at the top [ This is one way i.e upwards only ]

With this, check out with pyramid got totaled.

Would it not be fair if less secure lead gets rid of a competent employee ? Its fair for the lead isnt it ?

Not sure if this happened, but have heard from few on the similar lines.

Why would it be fair to lay off employees that the company hired in a region because a certain job needed to be done and then hire someone on a different continent to do that job then lay off the first hire? That happened all over IT. Say what you like about an IT worker but I cant even begin to tell you th3 numbers of managers, engineers, ... What have you that can't even figure out how to set up their development environments. Set ting path statements for projects, reset a %@$ &;:$ password. Yeah all those IT workers were really killing the budget. Hope they got rid of a like 30 percent of the idiots IT supports cud buddy you got a rude awakening when you call 8help to set up your python or Perl environments.

It's possible that many good people were let go. Especially if they were in groups, where the whole group was dropped. However, the ones I know about were fair. There is always fat to trim.
