Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Interviews

When interviewing new candidates it's customary to give them an opportunity to ask questions. They want to know if the position is a good fit for them as much as we want to know if they are a good fit for the position.

What I dread is when they inevitably ask something like "so what's it like working at Sabre?".

What am I supposed to say?

I cannot lie. It really isn't good. How can I lie about that. If I tell the truth then we would never hire anyone. Not even the most desperate incompetent fool would sign up for this. Just about everybody I know is seriously thinking of quitting. The only thing keeping the good ones is the severance and the bad ones are just institutionalized and unemployable.

How are we supposed to hire anyone?

Completely agree with SXFIBMC-ufe

Staying around because of severance is mediocre.

This is a great question.

An ethical person cannot answer with boilerplate bullet point half truths or all out lies provided by HR.

If you actually hire the person then you have to see them every day and know that it's your fault that they joined once reality comes into focus for them.

Ethically you really just have to refuse to be involved in hiring altogether.

That's a valid question as a manager. I would reach out to the VP of recruiting and ask for a few bullets to address all the public flogging Sabre is receiving online. I can promise you they are hearing this concerns at the first level of candidate contact. Someone in another post mentioned that there was a VP of employee engagement. Find them and get your answers.

Please know this was a good question.

As a hiring manager who is unhappy, maybe you should just look elsewhere? Severance isn’t a reason to stick around at a job.
