Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Then what for the "fortunate" who survive the layoffs?

I don't even know where to start. It will s---. Why? Big Management will wanna f--- with your mind. You will be expected to work harder. You will be doing more than before. You will be getting paid the same or less for your extra work. They'll f--- with your mind and make you feel like you owe them for keeping you or for still being employed. They will shame you if you dare complain or question the bs. They will coach you to death, document and write you up to remind you who is boss. They are doing it already. I never seen this before in my 10 years with the company.

You nailed it. More and more paperwork to "quantify" less and less productivity. And things just completely fall through the cracks.

When I was hired at XO there were about 5,700 employees. Then the economy collapsed about six months later and around 2011, or so, there was a mass slaughter of employees -- about half the company.

XO was smaller, so many employees did about five different things that weren't necessarily related to whatever title they gave you. One woman who worked as a manager in a call center was walked out by security guards with no notice when she got laid off.

About four or five months later the facilities departments started getting complaints that all of the vendors involved in training were refusing to schedule classes until they got paid.

It turned out that the woman who was a manager of a call center, was the same person, in charge of making sure all the training vendors got paid company wide. And since she was frog-walked out, like a criminal, with no notice, she had no way (and probably no inclination) to hand this job off to anyone else. So the bills just piled up.

That's what happens when you look at an org chart and plug in the ages of employees to decide who to cut.
