Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Layoffs criteria

One thing has been bugging me for a while now: who decides who gets laid of and based on which criteria?

I'm trying to make sense of the stuff that has been happening at State Farm, but some of the decisions and selections make so little sense to me that I'm failing miserably.

Anybody knows?

I can confirm that people who have been out due to illness have been targeted. A good friend of mine has been out multiple times due to back issues (proximity & need to be able to lug a ladder & climb roofs) and they ended up the only person without a job on my team. In neighboring units the older reps have been targeted. The message I am getting is this: If you are the oldest on your team, or have been out due to illness, you will be targeted.

you're both screwed but keep believing you're entitled to welfare from State Farm!

The good news is that you may be entitled to mental illness benefits.

rho - you are not totally screwed because of the PSL you took. I was out almost 7 months about 3 1/2 years ago and when I came back it was work as usual and I went right back to the job and the work I was doing before I went out. I would be more concerned about your current position and other factors which might make you, and or all of us, on the chopping block. If you were able to take eight months then you Must be a 20+ year employee. Based on what has been happening that type of seniority seems to make one a target. Hopefully you are feeling better and good luck during this mess.

Does anyone know if legit absences are being taken into consideration (or being used against us) in the selection process?

I had a medical issue not too long ago that caused me to be out of the office for 8 months. I used PSL for this because it was before the PTO switchover.

Since then I haven’t taken many days off other than the occasional Friday. Should I stop taking occasional PTO days off now?

Thanks for the info if anyone knows the answer.

I am sure salaries are being considered. Why should they pay more in salary for an employee when they can choose the cheapest and flood them with lots of work. More for less..... is probably how this will be decided. Companies now think about $$$$.

first off State Farm has NEVER cared who were the most productive employees. Their rating system was screwed up as the regions weren't calibrated to rate the same. An expected employee might be a "walking on water" employee somewhere else.

With that said nepotism and ;politics has always ruled the day. It's that way today. You better know somebody to get what you want. They don't care about job performance.

Give Op a Prize! The fun part about this reorg is that it appears that criteria is different for each department. For instance, Proximity Fire was determined by the zip code you resided in relative to a secret territory created by Corporate. No other criteria was used such as job performance, IT has hacked a layer of people out that seems to make a whole lot of sense to the non-hacked people. Others such as Parsippany have known the office was to close at some point but the some point has been accelerated. I honestly think Leadership is spinning a wheel for each department/location and where it stops is what they decide to do. Hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride...
