All corporations are largely the same. Nike just has nicer buildings, some cool perks, and operates in a cool industry. I spent six years at WHQ and left of my own volition some years ago. While I have fond memories of my time there, I have earned more opportunity, praise, and money at a much smaller company that many Nike acolytes would look down their noses at. The recent problems at Nike just stripped the veneer away and exposed it as just another big company with the same politics, egos, and problems found elsewhere and in other sectors.
My advice to all of you is this: Accept that you are nothing more than a budgetary line item to Nike.
That is cold and harsh but also a measure of freedom. When your department needs to trim 10% of the payroll, your line on the spreadsheet helps your director save his or her backside. Nothing personal, but you will be sacrificed to make the target number. Too many people get seduced by the Nike vibe and you should really avoid getting s---ed into it. All that you owe Nike is a fair day's work. CFE is ridiculous and rigged. Your rating and merit raise was determined month's ago. Years ago we used to joke, "If I show up and do decent work, I'll get 3%. If I abandon my family, start working 60 hour weeks, and sleep with the right manager...I might get 5%." Is it worth throwing away any semblance of work/life balance or personal pride for a few hundred bucks?
Get over the catchy slogans, the flashy propaganda videos, and having coffee carts and gyms just feet away. Work for YOU, not the company that sees you as a disposable asset when times get tough.
