Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Quit being jealous you've never had the opportunity to be a receiving clerk

So many of you downing receiving clerk and it just shows how bad this company has gotten. In my experience at the different clubs I've worked in and visited, the receiving clerk has always been the person who tends to know more about the club than absolutely anyone else in the building. There is a reason why they have been in those positions for so long, and it's not because they're lazy. If you think that then it's because you're watching from afar, and therefore have no opinion. You know nothing just like most people left working at Sam's. The ones who know what's really going on, know that losing them will cripple this company hard. Of course you will always have your exceptions, so don't come in crying about, well mine does nothing. There will always be those kinds here and there. That's managements fault. The majority is the most amazing associates in the club. So keep making yourself look like a fool with your jealous comments. You are just the type of people Sam's is trying to keep around. Idiots....

Wow. Thank you for single handedly running this company all these years!! I’m glad you’ve stayed humble. Lol

1st of all, could you be any more whoa is me?! Obviously if your position was that much of an asset it wouldn't be on the chopping block. Fact of the matter is, every single person working in this company is expendable. Yes including YOU, oh mighty receiving clerk. And furthermore, ANYONE could be trained to do your job, for less money.

JAA..here. No trying to put down clerks, please don't take it that way. my post was more personalized than I had thought and can easily be taken out of context. I appreciate the clerk in my club.

Yes, you are correct on many things. As long as you have someone that knows how prevent the mistakes before they happen and correct them once they have happened. But I am a Receiving Lead that was trained by our Receiving Clerk and although I have learned a ton, our clerk has probably forgotten more than I actually know. We have an AWESOME clerk but will miss them more as a friend and mentor when the position is eliminated.

I think it is common for clerks to say good luck without my knowledge and so on. It is easy to call other clubs for answers, super easy when you can text another knowledgeable associate. Sam's club goes on no matter what happens. I am a receiving lead and yeah I have concerns for myself and my team. I could give us pros and cons on the clerk all day long but it does not matter. The whole structure of Sam's is changing.. either you get cut, moved, or leave. Desk jobs go first, easier and cheaper to have machines and apps than have a median cap of $24 to pay out with no end.It has to end sometime. Like I said desk jobs go first.

With a horizontal analysis of -7.15% between 2017 and 2016, there is a reason the company is changing so much. There has to be major changes that might seem unnecessary but needed. Especially clerk position that the skill of a decade ago was vital, but in today’s technology not as important. Auto receiving and paperless is an innovation that can make the receiving clerk obsolete. I’m sure as a receiving clerk you already knew that though.

As wages go up and companies look for ways to cut cost and improve profits, most tasks of the clerk can be automated for less $ than you pay mostly capped $24/hour clerk associates. Workload doesn't change though on the dock, somebody has to move those pallets.

Those of you that are going back and forth on who does and doesn't do what and who works on the floor or in the back are taking your frustration out on the wrong people. We are all associates and will be affected in one way or another. Please be understanding and stop upsetting one another. If you can't do that, just stop post.

Wow , you people are hating on people who might be losing there job. Show some respect for the individual . If you have never worked in the back of the Club, you have no clue what goes on and how important these jobs used to be and still are . Yes, the work loads are getting smaller, but not in a good way. Clerks use to keep the Clubs running in budget. Making sure things got fixed asap and not double billed for work not completed. Would catch receiving errors and save the Company thousands of dollars, same with claims. These two depts are what got a lot of you your Sams share. So, before you bash someone's job ...... get the true facts

Most receiving team leads and clerks have forgotten more knowledge than most of the people in the clubs know about receiving. Everyone has an opinion and obviously do not agree on who does what and how they do it. Bottom line is things are changing weather they are good or bad, we will all find out in the near future. Good luck to all involved.

I never made it to receiving clerk or team lead. After working for Sam’s for as long as I have I can tell you that bragging about what you have become in Sam’s means absolutely nothing. Sorry, but most clubs do not advance their associates because of their work, let’s get real.

How is it that a job position opens and almost everyone in the club knows who is getting said position because word has already gotten out but the others who applied for said position are told no decision has been made and they still going through the interview process? Please, maybe once a long time ago people really did earn their positions but to knock people for not becoming a receiving clerk or team lead makes me laugh. I am very thankful for the opportunity to work for Sam’s but make no mistake here, I have seen a lot more hard working associates turn down and/or not offered these positions than I care to admit.

Ask people what they see in their management team today and see what answers you get. We are hearing of schedule changes up to a day before and never told of said changes, managers sleeping with associates (which is strictly against Sam’s policy), managers talking down to associates and the list goes on and on. Congratulations on your position and I am sure you earned it but for you to post and laugh at others because of what they are or are not with Sam’s is really sad.

My favorite part of receiving leads is when they think they make no errors and have attitude when you question about receiving issues. Sorry, my friend use to work on the audit team years back and she can tell you about how receiving leads think they are perfect and make no mistakes and roll their eyes when questioned about receiving issues.

I want to think most receiving leads are not like this but for the ones that are, you may find out that the world does not revolve around you after all. No doubt Sam’s is changing and most of us see this as not in a good direction, but try being humble and remember that at the end of the day the person who cleans the restrooms is just as important as the receiving leads.

I work in a 110 million dollar club. And receiving entails much more than just unloading trucks. I am the receiving clerk that is licensed on a forklift. I do just as much if not more than the daytime dock worker. That being said, if you are not on the Receiving Team, you have no idea and just need to stop acting like you do.

I wrk in a 100 million dollar club and the work load in Recieving is gone...... some people on here need to stop lying to themselves and except the fact that this is what Walmart been planning for yes now and it going to happen

I am not a receiving clerk but have trained to fill in...I was receiving lead at one point too. I can 100% affirm that those who p--poo the clerks have ZERO idea how much work there is in receiving..all mistakes the clerk has to fix fo other people...issues with received or miss received merch that needs researched..taking care of 5S area..cleaning up after all the lazy floor people and managers who dump in front of the bailer and compactor ...take care of getting donations from freezer and loaded 4 days a week...load fax and pull orders in trucks ..load big stuff out the back overhead..........the list of all the stuff receiving people have to do besides just receiving is enormous...I for one can not wait til there is only one part time person on day receiving so I can laugh and laugh and laugh at all the whiners who have to pick up the slack for what receiving has dumped on them every day....which lazy manager is going to go to the trash compactor 15 times a morning to unlock it???..........hahahahahahhaha......this is going to be great entertainment.........

I was asked today by a manager would I take a lower paying job.. I said ..will you be looking for my knowledge all day long.. she said yes.. sorry I need to be compensated for what I have acquired over 25 years. Who has 4 people on a dock? who has time to sit in the office talking? not in my club.

Well ours sat in office and wasn’t forklift trained and worked on dock after day receiving had gone home .So some where a waste of payroll.

What was special was the hours Monday through Friday and repetitive workload, that’s all. Now it’s about to be gone. Walmart recognized this as a sore spot, a desk position that takes up unnecessary payroll and corrected it, just like cash office. Audit team going away not managed well geezus. Learn from that experience and handled cash office termination better. That’s all. Desk positions are being replaced by machines and apps.

Then as a floor associate, you spend too much time in receiving and not on the floor where you should be.

I’ve been in 4 clubs where the whole receiving team didn’t like change and in their large downtime sat in the office and just talked about nothing...

Totally agree! Receiving clerks have tons of knowledge and are often the "go-to " person in the Club, for any issue! Those who think we just sit at a desk are misguided. I drive a forklift and unload freight all day! Half my day is spent on the dock.
