No there are not any Kmart franchises. Some managers like the refer to their stores as “neighborhood stores” (eye roll). He was just trying to make it sound less corporate, but it still is very much run by SHC

Are there franchised Kmarts? The article does refer to it as a "Hometown store". Sears Hometown stores are indeed a franchise, with independently owned locations.
