Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CVX report on strategy/ climate change risk

An interesting publicly available report to read, the Carbon Tracker analysis also uncovered something telling about whether FGP, Gorgon and Wheatstone will actually generate earnings.

https://www.chevron.com/-/media/shared-media/documents/climate-change-resilience.pdf

"Chevron does provide some detail on certain major assets, but does not make an overall quantitative assessment. For example, Chevron notes that its Kazakhstan Future Growth Project and the Australian Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects will “generate cash”. In contrast, the base business in Kazakhstan, deepwater assets in the Gulf of Mexico and Nigeria, and heavy oil in California will “generate cash and earnings”

It should not be a surprise that any project would generate cash once it has been built, even in a challenging price environment. If the majority of capital investment has already been sunk, it will continue to produce while it can cover its variable costs, which are likely to be relatively low. However, the real test is whether such a project will ultimately deliver adequate financial returns on the original investment.

We therefore read this as tacit admission that the first three projects don’t create value in a low-demand world – i.e. that they would be stranded."

Does it ever occur to you bumbling clowns that sometimes people post comments just to wind people up and to see if anyone bites. People at cvx take the bait very easily and it provides bemusement. Never thought of this? Not as smart as you think you are then.

4drf, 4vmj here. I remember a band called Nightcrawler that would often play at Skidmarks. What a name! Every time they took a short break the lead singer would say (with a deep low voice) 'We are Niiiiiight Crawwwwwler.' I'm laughing just having that memory. An appropriate name for a deep South rock 'n roll band. Man, it's making me hungry for some turtle pie and fresh boiled mud bugs.

There's that idiot -4kux again. Always spouting off about his job and how great he is and how much he earns like hes trying to convince himself of something all the time. Never seen anyone so insecure about themselves as he is. Claims he has multiple higher degrees, yet spouts about butthurt people on here like a 5 years old. Totally hilarious.

Love grabbing my popcorn and watching the typical Chevron degenerates bring yet another thread down to petty name calling, questioning someones education and showing exactly what the company really is. Look forward to it on every new thread. Lol.

4kux you are one of life's losers. You probably play with your keyboard all day because you have no qualifications, no job, no friends and no life. You can only pretend you have some things in life worth having but the truth is nobody cares what you have or don't have. You are a washed up nothing nobody going nowhere.

Skidmarks - that is funny! That reminds me of a bar in Jackson, Mississippi named Skidmarks. It was on Lakeland Drive. That was when I worked at Digicon Geophysical. Ah, the good old days.

I’m pretty sure under Australian tax laws we can manage to never show any earnings on the LNG projects despite massive cash flow. I have a similar scheme for my IRS filings. Works for me!

Your input is well received. But you are wrong about severance. I work at Chevron and I have an MBA. By all means, you are welcome to take your own advice. Stop embarrassing yourself and Chevron with your ugliness. So very sad.

2qmw - we need turds like you to get kicked out of here. Use your severance to get an education that you so obviously lack.

How smart does one has to be to result to nasty comments which is a clear indicator of ignorance. Stop embarrassing the company with your ignorance. Enough said.

Sadly, because the same managers are recycled repeatedly new ideas are frowned upon. The company will benefit by opening the doors to new leaders. As a twenty year employee with true respect for the company a significant benefit will be gained by moving away from managers who focus more on getting along rather than making the company successful. Headquarters SCM and upstream will benefit from MW’s leadership.

OP, it’s true that from where you stand, “you don't know what you don't know”. But, believe me when I tell you that the top Chevron executives know what they’re not telling anyone. Yet, the same management and decision executives remain in place or were shuffled around into other places to continue their track record of inept decisions and mismanagement. Nothing will change. Don’t expect it to.

OP here, i completely agree with you rpe you don't know what you don't know. I just hope things change this decade.

Right now for Chevron the ROIC (return on invested capital) is 5.27%, but the WACC (weighted average cost of capital) is 8.74%. Basically when ROIC < WACC a company is destroying value as it grows. I hope they keep divesting assets that are lowering CVX overall return, or maybe the oil price will come back who knows.

I am not defending or supporting any of the MCP executive management decisions made over the last several years, but trying to accurately predict long term future demand and market prices for oil and gas is inexact, to say the least. The big problem was massive cost overruns on these MCP's, in addition to poor engineering, QC and execution (Bigfoot).
