Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

First re-org for my spouse and myself came in the early 90s. Since then, I left the company but spouse is still there. Spouse is a 30+ year employee and every 2-3 years for the past 15 years or so, they have had to go through all the angst and anxiety that comes with the next State Farmaggedon. We understand fully that companies need to change as times change. However, there is something inherently wrong if your consultants suggest re-orgs before the re-org before even has a chance to work. It's madness. And it's very, very stressful not knowing if you're next on the chopping block. And if you squeak by this time, you'll be facing it again in a couple of years, because, apparently, the knuckleheads directing all this mayhem don't seem too interested in what they're putting SF's dedicated employees through. Could be because it's never their jobs on the line. Funny how that works. State Farm used to be such a great company to work for. We both were proud of it and always extolled the virtues of working for such a terrific company. Sadly, that company has been dead for a long time. I always believed SF cared about its employees as much as it did its customers. At least, that's the way you felt when working there long ago. Those days couldn't be further from the truth now.

I have been with the farm for 29 years and if if I really look back the company started going the wrong way in 1996. I remember hearing the term State Farm 2000 and that’s when things started going the wrong direction. I have been in several re-orgs and it makes the company look like a joke. Now at 29 years I have s choice to opt in or out. I will most likely opt in but really hope I don’t get an offer. This company used to stand apart and was s great place to work, now it’s just a place to put in your 8 hours and go home.

22 years - 2 substantial re-orgs

29 years and 6 reorganizations that impacted me directly. The stress can tear you apart. I took up exercise, deep breathing and meditation. On a bad night take a Xanax and you forget all about it.

I’ve been with the farm 5.5 years, and been through 3 rounds of layoffs, but before all of that, I spent a year in limbo because I was asked to start looking at locations to relocate to. Turns out I dodged a bullet because all the spots I was offered are now closing.

I've been laid off by the farm once previously. So, this makes #2.

Unlike last time, this time I won't be looking for opportunities to re-apply in the future. That's because this re-org, unlike the last one I went through, has made the company an extremely unpleasant place to be.

3 so far. I'm anticipating the final one will come in 6 months to a year.

Not my first rodeo. It never gets easier. First is the denial - this can't be happening, not to us. Then comes anxiety - wondering if it truly could happen. Then comes realization - Hey, these GD bastards are really doing this to us!, Fear comes in there as well, along with anger. Then a lot more fear waiting for the announcement. Finally, shock (or relief) when you find out your offer. I agree with the feeling dirty & disillusioned - the bastards are toying with our lives, as well as those that depend on us. I hope that Karma is paying close attention...
