Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

So many people quitting

If this is not the best indicator of the state Verizon is in right now, I don't know what is. We lose at least one person per week, and that's being very generous. Usually it's more like two or three. I've never worked for a company with such high turnover as this.

It does make me wonder why do we need layoffs at all, with so many people leaving on their own...

You can make what you make in another sales industries. Life exists outside of VZW, AT&T, T Mobile and Sprint. Don’t stay in the cell industry it’s over saturated and anywhere you go to you will deal with crappy quotas, micro managing and crappy sales targets. I went outside of the phone industry almost 2 years now and not a chance in hell i would ever go back. I’m at a sales job with no constant changing commissions, no quotas, no sales targets and no micro managing.

My question is where is everyone going. I've been doing nothing but retail for 25+ years. No degree no other valuable experience. I can't make what I make now somewhere else and as the commissions targets have gotten more and more out of whack I'm making less and less every year. Not to mention the fact that there has been little to no overtime the last 2 years when I used to be scheduled with 4-5 hours of overtime every week.

I started looking at jobs after the holidays and things got a little less stressful at work for about a month so I stopped. Now I'm right back at it. But I'm going to take a 20k pay cut wherever I go

Nobody at my store wants to be there, everyone stresses everyday about all these jacked up numbers we have to hit, quota's keep going up, traffic is going down, as are paychecks, everyone is looking to leave, we have 2 openings that they have been trying to fill for months, nobody is applying. So we all pray to the almighty hum everyday, to some how save us all!

Here in Arizona we have had 4 AMs and 5 reps quit in the last 2 months in just one district alone. Director is feeding the managers some good koolaid thats for sure.

I wa one of the last dinosaurs to start as a tech and leave as a manager. The current crop of management has zero experience with the network. A few years ago, I took a VP who was responsible for a major wireline region, through a central office. This person has no clue what they were looking at as evidenced by the stupid questions. Their only function they serve today is to hammer management heads down the line on results. Not one I know has the backbone to send any feedback back up the “leadership” chain. I think it’s frustration with this poisonous environment leading to all the attrition. Obvious, right?

The days of Verizon the dumb pipe have arrived. Get Verizon through Comcast for a fraction of the price.

Project Fi switches networks like a wh--e switches Johns. All for less.

Greener pastures ahead for this joke of a company. NOT!

Run fast and get out of big red. Nothing but a lagging telephone company. Get a job in healthcare.

It is pretty crazy but very accurate on some of the things being pointed out. I have never seen so many people quit without finding another job first . The management jobs at Verizon Wireless are the most volatile and overrated. At least as a solutions specialist you can make extremely good money and not have to deal with all the BS. If the DM's didn't have the managers on calls all day long sales floor productivity would be much better. The crap is going to hit the fan early next year though . Major commission changes, downsizing of managers, consolidation of districts and DM's. Get ready beeotchessss.

Store Manager who was with the company for 12 years involuntarily quit last week. He was asked to go to a training class the next day. When he arrived ,there was no training just HR and district manager in the " Training Room" it was the perfect unsuspecting hit ! The Sopranos couldn't have planned it better.they fired him for "underperforming store? No one remembers the last time that a member of the " club" was let go because of numbers. It was really for something else, something like an excutive didn't like him oh well.

Turnover at its peak! People in my district leaving left and right. Luckily I am right behind leaving next month to be vested. No money being made and GMS forcing us to throw HUMS down peoples throat

No, qdf, you have it all wrong!

Why would anyone in their right mind quit under fire?

Why not just take the firing?

If you're "quitting" with what was accrued in your pension pre-freeze, and your 401k, isn't that just suddenly retiring with zero notice?

No tjm you have it all wrong!

Management is being fired at an precedented pace........

So they QUIT before they get FIRED!

If you are in a Union you have a chance.

I have 30 years with this company and as we will see in the very near future, YOU CANNOT REPLACE EXPERIENCE WITH A COLLEGE DEGREE!

NE wireline has been shedding associates and management at a pretty good pace in 2018. Especially management. Look at the job postings, internal and on external sites.

Not sure where OP is.

OP, possibly you're the proverbial blind man touching one part of the elephant, and describing things from your limited point of view.

In my part of the world, or the elephant, no one quits, they retire.

Maybe you've got the hind ;-)

Please be more specific. Difficult to picture the state of entire corporation by one persons observation. What state? Wired or wireless? Call center or the field? What city or department? FSC or CSSC? Copper or fiber support? And on and on. Again clarify your statement.
