Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Leadership Problem

So the rumor of Tipsord's demise may be a rumor. It may be something that came right out of the Trump fake news playbook, but the real issue that State Farm needs to address is that thousands of people heard about it. It spread like an Arizona brush fire in a windstorm. Literally people from all areas, all levels of leadership, not just ones affected by reorganization, were rejoicing. It that isn't a testimony of a leader that has lost his ability to lead, then I don't know what one is. That is the real problem at State Farm. Not just reckless initiatives and expensive knee jerk reactions, but loss of faith of the majority of those that work in the company and have the perspective to see what has been happening. CEOs have been dismissed for less and the board, and even Tipsord himself, need to take note.

So is the theory that only lower paid service oriented jobs will be in BLM and all professional jobs will go to the hubs? That would decimate our local economy.

Who knows. I have heard that they have let him go but do to publicity they are trying to keep it quiet and slip in a replacement. Who knows. Just more lies from the farm. If he did what they said no way he could stay. If not then I guess he will stick around. Even with the losses don't see how they'd let him stay but nothing makes any sense down on the farm these days. Either way they are hell bent on moving all to the hubs. They will and about 5 years or less after realize they need a presence in all states and move back out. Have to laugh at it.

I personally believe all said about MT is true very likely. However the disregard and the unwillingness to tackle it head in shows what type of company we have become.

Remember how one of our Systems Execs would constantly say we were an IT company? Well that was our first problem. We need to identify with who we are Insurance & FS. If we don’t understand that something is wrong. Even after CDE this was still being said.

However in this day and age Systems is the backbone of a company, what do you as part of your workday without technology? It can make or break your service. Our service is broken. We need repairs and we need Leadership with vision and experience to do that. I personally don’t believe those people are in place today. I do think Mr. T gave Fawad a good shot it though. Not sure he is the right pick and I know those by his side are positively not the right people.

The other thing I can’t fathom is why so much change in so many areas? Admittedly there was opportunity to trim the fat across the hoard but Why everyone all at once? I don’t know what change management company is making these recommendations but I believe they are putting the whole company at risk. And a Tipsord has 100% accountability for that on his shoulders. How is this plan being presented to the board and are the current board members the right people?

This has been ongoing since 2001 folks. It's nothing new. People have been 'layed off' from departments such as Human Resource's Associate Service Center. Group Insurance had a restructure of an entire department searching for other positions within the company. THIS IS NOTHING NEW! My position was affected at the time, however none of us were warned back then. They wrote people up over a two year period of time and walked many people out the door of the ASC (HR Dept) at Corporate South in 2002-2004! All over corporate, employees were showing up at church in tears, head low and in total fear. Income loss and benefit loss without a warning. At least these employees had the opportunity to strategize their future. Then they put a mint into the State Farm park of all places! There IS more to life then State Farm. I have never been happier with the outcome now that I've had years of time to get over it.

If State Farm hands over all of its IT operations to a vendor, they deserve everything they get.

And what will they get?

Total loss of control, and being raped financially at every turn. If you think things are bad in Systems now, just wait. This is essentially the death knell for the organization.

And if they choose IBM (which has been the perennial rumor), the decline will be rapid and catastrophic. There won't be any shell games. IBM will just bend them over and give it to them. I wonder how long they'll keep smiling?

As far as whether or not it would be any worse than it is now, I'll make a couple of points:

1) Our IT operation s---s now, but the REASON it s---s is because the executives destroyed it with CDE. Yes, there has ALWAYS been waste and inefficiency courtesy of our company culture, but it really did function. Prior to CDE, every project I was on delivered on time and under budget.

2) Even in our current s---y state, we're better than an outsourcing of all IT to ANY third party.

If this were a game (and real people's careers weren't at stake), I'd love to watch them do it just so I could watch their empire burn.

It’s all a disaster. And yes they mess to address something. This is a joke. All public adjusters are coming in hand over fist. They mess to say something.

Better hope Fawad succeeds in a major way-next strategy is to outsource the entire department. Less cost, and the results would not be any worse. This almost occurred a few years ago.

I work in Systems too. Every single person I know in Systems wants Tipsy gone. Most also want his henchlings gone. Some people tend to give Fawad a pass because he's the only one who didn't have a hand in CDE, but most would like him gone as well, just because, "Why in the hell is a Lawyer running Systems...."

I too heard this spread quickly (Systems) - though I heard nothing like 'rejoicing'. But I don't doubt that in some circles, people like anything that might hint of a scandal - especially at the idea that a CEO departure may follow.

So, this type of convo is useful if it helps those who participate in some way - even just to blow off steam.

But as fun as it is to do, I can't just blindly accept the popular view here. The worst mistakes (eg inaction) may have been made before MT was at the helm. The future may show that MT really tured the farm around! Or the rumors are true, he failed, then the ship sank. I have know way of knowing. I would just like to entertain the idea of a bit more objective thinking.

But that's me; you do you.

I bet MistahTee has a real fun time ‘splainin all these viscous ugly unfounded and totally false rumors away.

Just to think, he had to take time out of his busy money making day, just to show off pictures of his family and tell us just how important we are to SF.

Keep up the good work! Our next stretch goal is to get home to wear one of those stylish “I love my wife” tee shirts.

This much is fact: When Tipsy finally leaves SF, it will be the end of an error.

Hearing it at the watercolor at corporate is one thing. Hearing it directly from agents all across the country is another, of which I heard from several last week. That's when I started really wondering if it was true.

That most of the company was cheering his removal doesn't say much about his leadership. I've met no one who speaks highly of him or senior leadership.

I think that says more about the henhouse than the rooster as they say.

I like Tipsturd. I think he should go by the street name of "Mr T" then when anyone asks him to justify his actions he can respond...."I pity the fool"....

I agree. MANY were hoping the rumor was true. Employees are longing for the days when they weren't a number.
