Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Laughable

Report came out saying that our CEO said this company embraces diversity in both women and people of color.

Having a conference to promote these things and then not actually follow through with anything in these conferences doesn't actually mean you embrace diversity but it sure does sound good

As one of few black people in this work force I was targeted and treated differently. Maybe not just because of my color, who knows. But I know that it was a real thing that happened.

I saw it happen with women all the time. DM's not promoting women so they can have their boys club. Men staying in roles far longer then they should because the role wasn't needed because that person was a buddy.

Why are all these companies so fake nowadays

Diversity for it's own sake will be the companies demise.

It's amazing how these company "leaders" never realize how big of hypocrites they are. After Verizon bought XO and before I got laid off I was able to watch Verizon's CEO speak a few times. Always harping on the "diversity" bandwagon.

Why not lead by example -- quit and promote (for example) a Black woman into your job?

In other words; put up or shut up.

It probably varies within the company. In Marni’s org, it was well known that merit came secondary to grind and promoting more women. She even gave new female hires special treatment with monthly mentoring meetings. These women never let anyone forget they were well connected.

Angiolet’s organization is particularly heavy on female VPs - most have zero experience or successful track record in what they’ve been assigned to do.

He did this to please Marni (who’s gone) but also because the men didn’t just say yes, they dared to think for themselves, and asked questions when Angiolet would babble incoherently.

The women now keep their heads down and hope he’ll move on or they’ll find a better position.

The male VPs all left or were pushed out.

@4npi is a troll. Linemen don’t get Riffed, only management gets riffed....linemen either retire or get fired...not riffed. You have no idea how it works on the wireline side.

OP is an obvious troll as VZ is the most PC company ever, similar to the military, where whites get the grunt jobs like linemen BUT blacks become 1st, 2nd, 3rd level management who harass and RIF them.

Low Wall and Strattman can say whatever they like about diversity as long as no one comes near their jobs. They are paid millions of dollars and are advised by Consultants as what to say and what to spew out to the ranks. Whenever it comes to money, they take a different stance. They loved the NFL contract so much, they overlooked the whole domestic violence issue. They would sell their mothers. Such hypocrites!

So, the company is deeply in debt and it’s spending money on a diversity and inclusion conference? We’re already the black privilege capital of corporate America. What more can we do?

I don’t know what department you work in, but we have black privilege in mine. I work at HQ. my department gaslights people over 50 so they can replace them with blacks. We even create jobs just to hire a black person, even as we layoff important roles. I’m calling BS. You don’t really work at Verizon. No way....

company is virtue signalling to millenials who are the biggest spenders on wireless apps and data along with being the biggest supporters of the pro women and pro diversity issues. VZ is trying to make itself the most likable with this demographic so the millenials will keep spending their money with VZ.

I'm all for equal opportunity. I've been with the company for a long time and for a long time our leadership has not been diverse. But they are going so out of the way to be diverse right now people who have no business being promoted are moving up. People that should have been fired or demoted for underperforming are moving up instead. It's never been a worse time to be a white male in the company especially if you have a little gray showing in your hair. My coworker who has better numbers me, better management skills and more experience than me. He's more qualified to be our store manager than our store manager. He can't get a solution manager position. But they ask me to be a interim that potentially will be permanent when I've expressed no desire. I can't help but think I'm being asked to be me diverse and someone I respect and thinks deserves the opportunity gets ignored. I won't even get into the lack of integrity for those being recognized and promoted.

In my store the only people who have been promoted the last 2 years are black and female (had no idea this company had this kind of quota). They're actually pretty awful managers and don't know how to help with forms, inventory or scheduling.
