The ProPublica article about age discrimination seem to be attracting enough attention that now there's a follow up on how the writers started investigating IBM in the first place.
It looks like getting together and doing something might actually lead to some actual results after all.

I wish the ProPublica article would have talked more about the severance pay going from 2 weeks for every year with the company (which would be six months for "older" employees like me) down to 3 months for everyone, then down to one month, then down to TWO WEEKS, and possible with the layoff we're all expecting, a week or less. What a horrible way to treat dedicated employees that have spent decades working at IBM - out the door with virtually no notice and one month's severance.

IBM should start collecting royalty from Indian IT companies for copying its layoff technique.
In other words IBM should thank and Indian company called tech mahindra for helping evolve this technique. This was widely used tech mahindra since 2010 and the HR and Resourced management folks from tech mahindra spread the dirty techniques to other companies in India.
Kudos Mr Anand moohindra chairman of M&M group this even got approval from present so called business friendly indian government led by Pm Modi. Few months ago this form was caught on tape enforcing forced resignation as CEO wanted to get higher bonus by improving margin
Here is it called forced resignation under threat of blacklisting thro NASSCOM skill registry database. Nasscom is the indian IT company cartel whcih lobby with Indian government to prevent enforcement of labor laws and regulations in india and has increased work hours to 11 hours daily in Indian and forced people to work even on weekends.
