Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Stay away from HR!

In case you didn't know this already (like apparently the idiot that I am) do not go to HR with any issues you might have pertaining to your boss. Just don't.

They are not there to protect you or help you in any way, no matter what they say. Company always comes first, and hierarchy in the complaint also matters big time. Just a friendly warning.

We all know and understand that HR's job is to protect company from the employees. And really, we don't want some idiot employee to sue GE because GE's leadership doesn't have enough of transgender AA leaders on its board. But even with simple menial tasks at least, dear HR, at least try to pretend that you are there for us...

HR in Schenectady is so closed minded that a decision is made before you walk in their door.

I disagree. I had an Integrity issue with someone that I raised. While no action was taken against that person, there was also no retaliation against me. I did see someone else attempt to raise an Integrity issue, but they later were let go due to lying about the integrity issue, their work performance, and their behavior.

Your milage may very, but I personally feel GE HR takes all complaints seriously. While the outcomes may not be fair in the eyes of the complaintant, the investigation process seems fair.

I'm not part of HR either. I just thought this post was a bit unfair.

-1puc and -1ouc,

Those posts sound incredibly familiar.

Legal: Did your EMS (or whatever it's called now) say "I'm giving you this rating in retaliation for reporting me?"

Me: Well, no. Obviously.

Legal. So we both agree that there is no strong connection. Your best bet is to accept it and move forward.

I agree, HR @ GE is useless. My concerns with my manager were addressed improperly, and it came back to haunt me. So much for a no retaliation policy. For all of my time at GE I was considered a top performer until I spoke up, then amazingly, I became a problem. I had nothing to gain from sticking around and dealing with the nonsense and @55-holery so I left a month ago. The job market is too good right now to stay somewhere and be miserable. I took a slight pay cut, but I am way more relaxed and can sleep at night without taking anything to help me do so.

Plain and simple the company is too big.

Their culture has turned them into a mess that cannot respond to anything.

I have seen lots of complaints being mishandled when I ran a team.

Investigations go down like this. A guy gets caught not following the spirit letter and gets reported.

HR investigates and realizes he should be terminated. Legal will send someone in to finish the investigation. It will be turned into something like this. Did you see this person do this at 9:00am on that specific day? Answer: Not of that day but on another day. Conclusion: OK thanks that is a solid NO then. Case closed.

GE the land of where we do exactly the opposite of what we say. All gather round for compliance, ethics & integrity training and then wink wink fudge the numbers. Do I see $1 a share in the future?

Looks like this place has an ethics and cultural level that is on the bottom rung of society. If that doesn't concern anyone then that's why they are there.

I was in several meetings with GE Leadership who tried to identify the source of Ombudsman complaints. Lists were made and those suspected were ALL layed off during the last layoff to make sure they got the complainer. One manager even laughed and joked that they fired all to make sure the dumb @55 paid the price.

Really? Rule number 1 about HR, HR works for the company not for you. At to the comment about Ombuds, maybe in other companies but not in GE as there is no integrity just an ability to cover-up

Live and learn. Complaints to HR are a sure fire way to identify "problem employees" and those that the company no longer wants to keep onboard.

What world have you been living on?

HR is only in place to protect the company from legal action as well as advance those who they view as future kings so they can be the king makers.
