Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Tech Sales layoffs

I worked in tech sales for a different company, which I won't mention and it's not important anyway. Got laid off a year ago and at the time I assumed there were loads of jobs and I would be working in no time.

Well, reality check, no, there aren't. I'm still looking. And no, I wasn't fired for poor performance. In fact I was top 10% in my region.

So, I'm guessing most of you have the rose colored glasses on too and are assuming you'll have multiple job offers by next week. Well, don't count on it. And the sooner you come to terms with the reality in the job market, which is nothing like we're told on the news and "official stats" the better off you will be.

I agree with 1unf. Things are bad enough without posts like the OP. Some of us aren’t in the position to leave. Some of us are trying and biding time, not wanting to jump from one sinking ship to another. I don’t believe that any job at IBM is safe and secure, but the writing has been in the wall for a long time w/r/t Sales. I have my own personal opinion of Sales, and it’s not good. I would never wish job losses on anyone, but cuts to Sales doesn’t surprise me one bit. They’ll now feel the same strains that Support and Development have felt for years.

As if people coming here are not anxious enough, this is a crass, unhelpful post that says more about you than it does the current job market. Every person's situation is different, as are the potential opportunities they'll find so scaremongering like this based on your own isolated experience really doesn't help anyone.
