Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Make it local

I will say it again. (but corporate will not listen, again), they need to fire the whole supply chain group from top to bottom. Make everything local decision making. And pay the vendors where the local management can make the best deals. Let local management be responsible for their own profitability and if a product line or region doesn't make money, then close them. No time left for grand plans. Get rid of all the Vice Presidents too. Just have local product lines in charge of each region. The local shops know how to make money, if the Corporation can get out of the way.

WFT is hiring a new VP of Supply Chain, that is going to report to the execute VP of Supply Chain, the misfortuned albeit cunning tax queen. The first assignment is to convince suppliers to take WFT of credit hold and ship parts for free, pay WFT a rebate of 100% on all parts purchased in the past 10 years, and lay off all local purchasing in operations that are b--ching and moaning about how bad HQ in SJP is.

If you don't believe WFT is going down you are delusional.

I will give that they made some cuts that were needed, hell my positon was questionable and I understood why - only issue is the director they put over my teams was/is out of touch with how things run and spent the majority of his "management" time in MEA. I fully agree there was duplication and yes I was upset as it was a gut-punch being released, I am better for it now without question. For fairness, WFT gave me a package and paid benefits for a good while so I came out ahead overall.

That aside, you have to see the end is coming. You got to start looking as it is still hard to find something although the market is said to be improving. Take a look at some of the operators, BP and PXD are said to be expecting layoffs soon if not already in the works - that's just more folks looking for that same job as you.

If all else fails, stay where you're at and flame on.

It sounds like a few are trying to defend Supply Chain, the VP's and the Regional management systems. The truth is there is too much overhead and a whole bunch of people who don't really create value in the company. I have tried to highlight a few places where that is. The problem is the company is shrinking. A growing company that is profitable can play with the idea of consolidating functions. But that is not WFT. The solution is to break it up into profitable companies, like the ones WFT bought and then merged into the body of Weatherford where they died. Like the Surface Logging Group of companies. I know for a FACT that WFT is throwing away Inventory that is still useful just to book an improvement in their working capital calculation. Makes no sense, and destroys value! But that is what they are doing. All because of the stupid VP's who have no brains.

Try Listen Up.

If that doesn’t help then it’s back to the fact that WFT is f***ed.

So don’t worry too much. And enjoy the last ride.

This is not how an MNC works. If you want that kinda freedom you set up your own company.

If you want to be part of a big group you have to follow HQ instructions and sometimes unfortunately bad VPs or bad initiatives. No big group will fund a local entity without having a say on how to run it.

I honestly see your point but thats not how it works. Unless you set up your own company. Or buy out the local entity from HQ.
