Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

No, Verizon does not pay workers 60% more than AT&T

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true.

At least that is what it looks like from newly disclosed pay figures, which show Verizon paid its median employee nearly $127,000 last year while AT&T’s median worker made about $78,000.

The few minutes it took me to read the pointlessness of that article is 3 minutes I can never recoup. Thanks for wasting my time. That's what passes for journalism these days?

In my opinion this article's headline is quite misleading and, the assumptions drawn from the information (or lack thereof), silly. The article itself points out that it's a total apples-to-oranges comparison when it states, "They [the companies] can pick various measures of pay to line up workers from highest to lowest, before choosing the person in the middle. Some use salary and wages alone. Others include various combinations of overtime, commissions, cash bonuses, equity awards, pension and 401(k) benefits, company-paid health-insurance premiums and more."

Another segment of the article that baffled me was Jeffrey Moore's statement, "...That leaves AT&T with more so-called pole climbers -- the installation, repair and maintenance workers that make up much of the telecom industry -- as well as more regional office staff. It's much more of a physical business. You've got to have a lot of low paid people to roll trucks and establish phone connections." -- Jeffrey Moore, a telecom-industry analyst and principal of Wave7 Research.

They probably include the 8k/year tuition assistance, 401k, health insurance, etc. I was a top 10% rep and barely made 70k my best year

I can't read the article as it requires a wsj subscription but I have zero complaints about what Verizon pays me and while it's probably not 60% more than att, it's definitely more than industry standard.

Verizon is adding all the benifits that you get with your pay,and then they tell the public that thats what you get paid, really so lowell you must make.a mere100 mill a year and all your vp's must make around 3 mil a year and directors male like 600k a year ,and 2nd levels mak 300k and 1st level 's make 200k a year and the reg employee makes 120kba year on straight pay ,is that how verizon explains their payscale,..this company is so full of it..
