Are these positions still rumored to go?

Of course buyer is a position that is rumored to go. There are rumors about basically every position.
We all got sign making software (SLAW) and digital signs that replaced large chalks. Some speculated that this indicated sign makers were going to be phased out, and then it happened.
If we all receive registers that have the ability to be linked to auto-replenishment, then you can guess whats coming. Whole Foods is about 20 years behind other large grocery chains in that it still relies on the gut feelings of stock-people to replenish their stores. With auto replenishment it will suggest stock levels based on history, weather, availability, and sales projections.
So, in other words, no one has any concrete info. Only speculation

In most grocery stores the department manager or assistant mangers oversees Ordering which is doable if the number of distributors. Is smaller

That's not how R10 works.
Store buyers will always be needed maybe in a lesser compacity but somebody still needs to check on auto replenishment.
What about regional and global buyer positions?
I've not heard a definite timeline, but they invested a huge amount of money to install the new R10 registers across the entire company. These new registers have the ability to re-order merchandise whenever they decide to flip the switch. Every other large supermarket has been using auto replenishment for the past 10-15 years. We have been collecting data for over a year now on the new systems so it's just a matter of time until buying is automated. Since we are owned by Amazon now, they could easily analyze this data and do a better job than most humans. Humans will still be needed to verify on hand stock. WFM has been terrible with cameras and security in the store so theft is rampant, making it hard to keep an accurate running inventory of high theft areas, it will not surprise me if advanced camera systems are put into place before auto replenishment is turned on.
