Vacation payout

When an associate resigns from Sears on good terms, how long does it take for unused vacation hours to be paid to that associate? Does it normally happen automatically or is a phone call to 88 Sears necessary to initiate the payout?

Call your HR rep. Called 88 Sears 3 times before I left the company and was given 3 different answers, none of them correct. My HR rep gave me the correct info.

@3lvx A "bonus" may have more tax money withheld from it when you initially receive that paycheck, but it will all even out when you file that year's taxes (you will get the extra back as a refund). There's not really any special "bonus tax", it's just that the payroll system decides how much to withhold from each paycheck based on if the amount of that individual paycheck would be the amount you get every pay period all year, so one larger-than-usual paycheck temporarily skews the formula.

Mine required a call to HR and I received it a few weeks after my last check but since it is taxed as a bonus instead of regular pay, It was quite a bit smaller than if I had just used it as vacation. S---ed but my lesson helped other employees not make the same mistake.

In California it is on your last paycheck. It is California state labor law.

I resigned almost a month ago and had my vacation paid just this last pay period, no problem. It feels good to be out of that soul s---ing place!

I don’t know about what the first person wrote but the hr keys in the request for final pay and all monies owed are paid.

When I resigned (from Kmart) in October, it was put on my last paycheck. Luckily. Other former employees used up their vacation days before quitting, which is a good way to go if you don’t want to go through the potential hassle.

It gets paid out on your last check.

When the SGM enters the term in the system, he picks the "correct" code, which will either allow or not allow this option, he then puts in the # of days of vacation/sick to be paid out to the associate.

So understand this when/if you leave, can be the last bit of retaliation, and good luck with 88sears assisting you on what the SGM entered and getting it reversed. His word vs yours and you think theyre going to invest "time" into your claim of this given the current affairs? Just saying, be realistic with what you do if you want to get paid out and be sure to communicate this to the SGM to code and enter this info in right or else you pretty much have no recourse
