RA Class of 3/2018 - 90 Day Strategies?

So, fellow classmates of the RA of March 2018, what are your intentions as far as how to manage the 90 day zombie period? I'm tempted to just shut the laptop off and get it ready to ship back and just pay attention to my phone and ipad for email, sametime, etc. And that will only be 9am to 4pm with a generous lunchtime. I'm definitely not doing any meetings unless they are turnover or urgent. UPS MyChoice shows that my package will be delivered by 10:30am today, in the next hour. Should be some interesting reading. I'll be all over the HR aspects of things that need to be done, that's for sure.

A tip from an ex-IBMer who left about six months ago. I didn't like what I saw going on, so I left on my own before the axe could fall. Before I started my search, I updated my Linkedin profile to distance myself from IBM a bit. I came in from an acquisition, so I listed my current job as "------, an IBM Company". If you've been at a big company like IBM, Oracle or even Microsoft for too long, you carry a lot of baggage with you to the interview cycle. So sorry to all who have been RA'd, I wish you great success in landing a great new gig. I enjoyed my 11 years at IBM, but I have no regrets about leaving. Go well.

Don’t let 30 days severance (money sure, but not much) slow down your quest for a great new job. You effectively have 120 days to find the right next job and that means you don’t have to be desperate and take crap but if you find it, take it. Biggest mistake I ever made was turning down a great job because I wanted the severance. That money won’t last long but the next great job could be your last. Go find it!

--vif, You are considered a regular employee until your last date (June 27 in this case). If you quit your job to start another job before that date, you will be treated like any other regular employee who quits one job and starts another job. He/she does NOT get a severance from the job he/she quit.

Meaning you leave IBM before June 27th - do you get the severance payment

3 months notice, last day June 27th. With a 1 month severance payment.

What happens if you get another job starting say June 1 - Will you still get the 1 mth severance payment?

Let's use this thread to keep each other up to date on tips, for those who have been RA'd. I got my package early this morning. One of the most important things to do now is call Fidelity Employee Services Center at 800-796-9876 to get set up and in the queue for a coordinator and a lot of the benefits. They'll go over health insurance, any FHA/pension, lots of stuff. Very useful call. Ring them up now, they'll already have you on the list if you got cut.

Beware, if they put you on a PIP and you take the 30 day severance and 90 day health insurance they will tell the state that you quit.

You're right -ykv. Dedicating yourself to a company used to mean lifetime security in return. No more. My old man said "You'll never get rich working for the man." Now you'll never even get a comfortable life. It's just a hamster wheel of abuse. Join the gig society, freelance. Don't work your hiney off to make executives like Rometty fabulously rich with only stress in return. Workers need to organize again and revolt. Things are way out of whack again in terms of income disparity.

90 Day Strategy fellow classmate - find a job. The next 90 days are about finding a job and nothing else.

I feel similarly, however, wont give IBM the chance to fire me before my last day based on performance...and I am sure they would love to do that so they didn't have to pay the one month of severance pay! Just move on...I for one am going to pursue contract jobs as NO company gives a dam about their workers any more....sad comment on society
