Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Please explain...

I work as a PM in SJC. This past week I was introduced to a new PM fresh off the boat from India on a visa. I'm thoroughly confused. I have absolutely no hatred towards Indians and I'm sure this gentleman is going to be a fine coworker. However, I thought visas were reserved for the more technical positions like engineering? A PM role is not difficult. For sure Cisco could have found a local hire for this. Please don't bash Indians on this post. Thanks.

A high school dropout can work as a PM. Rumors has it 70% of all PMs will be based out of India. If you are a PM in the US, start saving your money as your days at Cisco are numbered. Don't hate FOBs, everyone in the US except native Americans is a descendant of FOBs or is a FOB.

The PM role is one of the most critical roles in any organization and finding a good PM is very, very difficult. When the OP says that a PM role is not that difficult, then I suspect that they don't fully understand the scope of the role or what makes for a good PM.

Also, I suspect the new PM already was a PM with Cisco in India and is probably on a L1/L2 Intracompany transfer visa? I don't remember Cisco ever hiring a PM from India on a H1, but I could be wrong.

If you think a PM role is not difficult, then you are doing it wrong.

It’s easy to find a mediocre PM to push paper around. It’s hard to hire a good good one.

"Fresh off the boat" isn't racist. Some of you people have really thin skin.

It’s good that racists are honest enough to express themselves in public. That way anyone can see what the culture is like.

And please - don’t ask “but what was racist in what was said?”

Using the phrase "fresh off the boat" to describe an Indian colleague reveals...much. The OP might want to Google a thing called "unconscious bias." In the event the OP's bias is entirely conscious, please Google it anyway and learn something new today.

Peace out.

It is indeed rare to find a class A talent who prefers to accept 50% of the prevailing wage.

As companies repeatedly say, you have to look far and wide to attract the best "talent". Governments generally fall for this idea rather than having some backbone and suggesting to said company that these "talents" are not that rare any maybe an existing citizen would fit the bill.

He's cheaper and has friends. There are a lot of PM's in Cisco on Visa's. For Cisco its all about cost, they have no intention of using the visa system as it was intended.
