Technical bootcamp option?

For those RA’d, two questions: 1) how do you sign up for the technical bootcamp, and 2) what are the terms of applying to the bootcamp, where/how long/when, and what are you giving up to take that option?

inquire with galvanize - I think courses are ~10k. If instead you take full salary and severance I think you can do those courses yourself with a better organization.

Now I d k this for sure because I haven't done any of these boot camps but For example if you were in Austin TX and were thinking about taking Data science course - I'd stop and look at one such boot camp by UT Austin which costs about same and should have more value.

Point I am trying to make is before you go this route think about how much compensation you are losing and if you can get better options outside

Thanks! It looks like the courses are through Galvanize and General Assembly, which are both quite expensive. Does anyone have any experience or courses with these? Are they worth going through or are other, cheaper boot camps just as good with job placement?

You have to let them know within 30 days of your RA notification if you will choose this option. Then you sign up for the bootcamp which is about 4 weeks. The RA terms change if you go this route - after the first 30 days since your RA notification you are placed on a leave of absence and paid 1/2 your salary (in general, there are all kinds of qualifiers for people already on LOA and things like that) for 120 days while you are in the bootcamp, then you're done. You get no month's severance pay and as stated this removes the 90 days zombie time. The courses are at https://techbootcamp.w3bmix.ibm.com. These are on-site in a few major cities, and virtual. The virtual offerings looked kind of skimpy and didn't start right away, which of course is a factor given the timing of this agreement.

Please NOTE that this isn't the same as the $2,500 retraining allowance. That one doesn't affect the 90 days zombie period or month's severance. I'll be going that route, perhaps for a drone academy.
