Where have you gone @4atl? Our board turns its lonely eyes to you.

You, and the left side of your brain (@2zgh, @2egy, @2zgh, @1ncb, @1ffv, @oqo, @xqb and, let us not forget, OP) are quite silent as of late.

What’s going on?

Were you wrong?

I know the Greenwich CO is inhouse but I too would be interested to know what other inhouse COs serving neighborhood OSP are in Ct, as you have claimed @4atl.

You say there are several, but you’ve since apparently adopted a policy of 100% radio silence.

Which leads me to the conclusion that, dare I say it, oh, what the heck, could it possibly be that you propagated falsehoods in a misguided effort to advance your anti-Union agenda, as is too often commonplace these days with dishonest individuals, and that you found it overwhelmingly tempting to put out a falsehood to serve that anti-union agenda?

Or, am I the misguided one?

Put up or shut up.

@4atl, You speak in generalities. What Connecticut towns, specifically, Use our CO’s for their OSP?

Dark fiber is just that., An unlit A to Z short haul fiber that the “customer” lights. A majority of fiber in the wireless CRAN network world is fronthaul/CPRI. CPRI cannot be transported across traditional lit service. The customer (wireless) just leases the dark pipe.

Wrong, VZB is Verizon's presence in CT and all other areas "out of franchise". VZB will be significantly expanding the Verizon wireline presance in these areas, with contractors. There are several VZB CO's in CT, that will be built out and used.

The contract signed by the CWA and IBEW allows contracting on the VZB side of the house, but some areas are "supposed" to use a workshare clause, ie get help from VZT. However VZB management will not allow this clause to be used, because they want to keep the two sides as far apart as possible.

Anything I write can be looked into using available information provided by the company. We should be coming together, not leaving work on the table for contactors to do.

@2zgh Your premise is ridiculous. VZ has no wireline operations in Connecticut other than Greenwich. The 5G build there will be dependent on VZ leasing and using Frontier's outside plant and facilities. Their people are union but work for Frontier. They will build their territory as we build ours. I don't see how you could possibly expect our field techs to build out of franchise. It just isn't done that way barring special circumstances like hurricane or flood restoration work. Why would the Frontier people want us to intrude on their work? Our presence would likely violate their contracts.

So, @2zgh, according to you, the plan is to go into areas that are already serviced by another telco company, and where we have no C.O.s, run and attach fiber to that other telco’s poles, and offer residential service, allowing customers to choose between two telcos and a cable company?

Are you sure of this?

Besides the fact that I don't like the tone of the OP, we should fight for all the work we can get.

Hold on, are youse guys arguing that we should not fight for work in CT? Just course we haven't done it in the past?

Are you sure you're not the college management trainees I hear so much about?

All splice work should be ours, wherever in the NE it is. Period.

Connecticut other than Greenwich has never been ours. I don't see your point. As far as Connecticut VZB it is understood the majority of them where scabs anyway. I believe only one stood strong there. It is hard to be concerned about scabs.

The reality is, with a major build in the works, you have have a seasoned union work force of the best trained people ready to serve NY and NE. Just in time for 2019. Chew on that for a minute.

You're not gonna let this go @2egy, even when your reasoning becomes unreasonable, and you're grasping at straws. Pitiful.

Thank you, @2ind, for being the voice of reason in challenging this agenda-driven knucklehead who keeps posting here, the individual who consistently ignores everything that those in the know keep posting regarding the reality of things, a reality that tears his blind misguided view of the world, the world he oh so badly wants to be a reality, to shreds.

He thinks he possesses the power to change the path of the future by simply repeating BS in a redundant ad nauseam manner until it becomes reality.

So juvenile.

@2dzr is correct regarding Connecticut. Vz's only franchise in the state is the town of Greenwich. The town is largely fed by Greenwich CO with the remainder being served by Portchester, Bedford village and Armonk COs. The rest of the state was SNET,AT&T now Frontier and are union as well.

The areas of the country that are too ignorant to be union represented will continue to be worked in an unrepresented fashion, undoubtedly for less pay. The represented areas will work status quo to their applicable contracts as 2qyd stated.

" Vz doesn’t want to be in the dark fiber maintenance business..too many expense dollars. Lit fiber doesn’t work with 4g/5G/CRAN architecture." -- @1pva

@1pva, I believe "dark fiber" is simply unlit fiber, currently idle fiber available for use. The way you describe it makes it makes it sound like a separate entity.

OP, it appears you may have a hidden agenda in that silly post, that of provocateur, yet the rank and file didn't fall for it.

Nice try troll.

When you say, "Who will place the fiber for 5G ,wireline, wireless or contractors

I would assume wireless or contractors since its part of the wireless business",

it's not because your asking a question, or being inquisitive but, rather, trying to stoke false flames.

Here's the simple answer to the best of my knowledge, though I assume you know it.

In areas traditionally fibered by union for cell tower and home service, it will continue to be done by the same individuals.

In areas not traditionally fibered by union for cell tower and home service, it will continue to be done by someone else.

You see, it's really quite simple, is it not?

The way you've ignored numerous comments while continue to pound away in this thread with what you want to believe rather than what reality bears out, and your continuing down your path of turning a blind eye by steadfastly disregarding all the info being provided to you that is evidence that supports the contrary, is quite telling.

Dude, you're wrong.

That's just the way it is.

Wishing for a different outcome because of your obvious hatred for a certain hardworking segment of this enterprise doesn't bring about its reality.

Go upstairs, say goodnight to your parents, and go to bed. Let it rest already. The hatred emanating from you is palpable.

2zgh, it appears in reading the previous comments from those who actually work in the field that, in areas where the union has traditionally provided the fiber for landlines, and fiber for cell towers, via linemen placing that fiber and splicers splicing that fiber, they will continue to do so,

while in those areas where they have not been operating as providers of fiber line and splicing, they will continue not to be operating.

It further appears that it may be you who is the confused party rather than 2dzr.

So, if a single central office in the Connecticut area has historically been serviced by the union within the company that is now rolling out the newer 5G service in that central office area, for its fiber line and splice needs, my guess is the status quo would continue for that central office's area, while those areas traditionally serviced by AT&T, Frontier, whoever it is that operates in the rest of the state of Ct., would be handled differently.

Is what I'm saying incorrect?

2dzr, in case you didn't know, (and apparently you don't) VZB in CT is UNION. Therefore it is in the UNION footprint. But instead of fellow UNION members doing the building, it will be contractors. You are still living in an ignorant dream world. CT is considered "out of franchise", so your foothold will remain small, we will have VZ UNION techs there, working along side contractors. Rather than bringing UNION line crews up or down to do the work. The VZB techs don't know any different, they are ignored by there own halls.

You have no idea that there is a world outside your own, and you do nothing to stop the companies slow march toward your obsolescence.

@1ncb, with the exception of Greenwich and Cos Cob, we are not the provider of landline in Ct., so, therefore, it’s not in the union footprint. Why not stow the “weep if you must” nonsense, and do a little research before mouthing off and bringing your ignorance to light?

Not enough installers in the COs. What few they do have get first priority work and then the "cheaper" contractors take the rest. I've seem some of the contractor work and it's not impressive.

If that post was directed at the VZB tech who posted, I have news for you, we support the Union. However our leadership screwing up, we are a conduit for contracting. We have got to fix this before it causes too much harm to all concerned. Wise up, fix this in 2019.

Don’t like unions? Then go back to working 16 hour days, weekends, holidays....for less than minimum wage. Give back your vacation and sick days too. Go buy your own health insurance...there’s no reason the company has to give it to you. Pension/401k...give that back also. Everything you have today is because of the sacrifices that union members made for the benefit of everyone, whether you’re in a union or not. The unions are not perfect but you would not have the working conditions that you have now if it weren’t for them.

Contractors. They are being hired through Verizon Business, who through a oversight from the Union is allowed to use contractors. All VZB IP backbone will be serviced this way. The Union still hasn't figured their own network out, they still think "they" control wireline, when it slips away from them every day.

Can’t speak for the northeast but everywhere else Vz is getting its dark fiber via SLA with dark fiber providers like Crown Fiber, Cox, ZAYO, etc. Vz doesn’t want to be in the dark fiber maintenance business..too many expense dollars. Lit fiber doesn’t work with 4g/5G/CRAN architecture.
