Union not a solution but a professional body of techies can do wonders in improving working conditions and pay

Union not a solution but a professional body of techies can do wonders in improving working conditions and pay.

nasscom is IT companies association that tends to dictate the working conditions and hiring policies and uses lobbying to silence government oversight in India.

A similar body of tech pros in America can go long way in keep companies in control.

recently some indian professional bodies of techies exposed nasty profiteering practices in in Indian IT services companies that led to halting of large scale layoff of tech pros who are age 40 . It was found that CEO and sr mgmt staff wanted to use this layoff to ripoff extra bonus by showing saving by replacing %0% older employees with freshers from college.

A similar forum or professional run a awareness campaign in Indian to educate college grads on volatility of IT careers in India this led to some firms like tech mahindra(notorious or bad culture and cheating in appraisals and corrupt manager) getting zero response for hiring drives even in backward states with high employment.

Indian IT firms switched to offcampus hiring but still youngsters not ready to work in support, testin and infra roles....

I worked for an union shop for 12 years and can confirm this:

Union leaders are no more wholesome than corporate leaders

I am anti-union, educated, and thinking clearly. I have also actually worked in a union shop. Union leaders are no more wholesome than corporate leaders. They have their personal interests, and they will save their favorites and let the rest be damned. But in the case of a union they would use my money to do it.

That's all IBM does is keep dead weight on the payroll.

How about spending tons on agile training whilst people are being laid off who do the actual work.

Beyond brain dead

Unions are good at two things - keeping dead weight on the payroll, and keeping top performers from getting compensated appropriately. Collectivism isn't the answer. Enforcing anti-discrimination laws is.
