Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

SW locked trash compactors

So now we have to wait for a shifty to unlock trash compactor and inspect our trash before throwing it away, just because unknown shrink was so high and they think the loss is there. What about posting TM’s and checking guest’s receipts before they leave premises? A good percentage of unknown shrink is from people stealing, people knows is so easy to steal at any Whole Foods, 2-3 big doors , everyone so busy doing their job and not paying attention or front end just talking to each other while tons of people are stealing a lot of groceries every day, all friggin day and of course TM also

Our compost is locked and we must sort through our trash with an STL (who doesn’t show up and leaves it to the receiver) How degrading.

Fun fact: STLs can watch the store remotely through the camera system. It is basically a website they log into.

Our STL is ALWAYS calling in sick, but I am sure the situation is covered with Dr. note. But, it does not excuse the fact that store leadership displays a level of disinvestment in the store by hiding out in the office. I question: "who is watching the watchers?"

What about store managers doing 7 hrs in their office or coming late leaving early or wrkng three days and collecting 5 dayys of pay? Shoulld we close their office doors and make sure they punch in amd out? Or is that cover by amazzon now? Whatt a joke. Wattching trash?!? Watch the stls and all stores will be more profitable.

What about the shorted items from UNFI? I get a lot of shorts but still get charged for them and with this 5% off invoice I can't get a credit. If you don't write off the shorted items as a loss in spoilage then it lands in unknown shrink. I am a small sub team and can check my truck in daily. I can only imagine what grocery, dairy, prepared foods and produce get shorted and it is quite regular. SWD is not much better. That 5% off invoice from UNFI doesn't ever come close to paying for the shorted items because the shorts happen on a daily basis.

Back when I worked at WFM I would report theft to store leadership often, they never did anything about it and stated “it’s covered in margin”. So I took this to heart when I busted a sweet little old lady with a couple hundred dollars worth of Whole Body face creams & lotion, saw her dump the empty boxes in the trash in the middle of the frozen aisle, where there are never any cameras, she saw me and knew I busted her, all I said when I approached her was have a good day Louise, long time customer/shoplifter for years. We both giggled and I went back to work accomplishing nowhere near the ridiculous amount of tasks that were my OTS requirments checklist. It’s the little moments that count.

Most stores have really out of date camera systems. I worked in one store that had really good ones though.

Not sure if it's the same in all regions, but we desperately need better camera systems so we can confidently go after shoplifters. I've never worked for a retailer with such poor camera coverage.

I work at Giant Eagle and we have The Store Consultancy Group at our store, running S.W.A.T. / new procedures to stop shrink. They've implemented new procedures such as lock compactors, seal non essential doors, only so many vendors in the store at a time. Supposed to go up and down the aisles to engage the customers, but with only so many employees engaged at various locations you can't get customer.

Speaking of customers it's probably easier to catch larger ticket items a shopping carts full of items, versus something like a box of condoms or a bottle of Zyrtec. Plus you have customers that most likely assumes that the employee knows when they stick a gallon of milk in the freezer section, or get something that needs to be frozen or chilled but then leave their shopping cart out without any indication that they will be back.

To me it's like a death by 1000 cuts.
