Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Employment verification

I was recently laid off and am actively looking for a new job. My prospective new employer wants to do a background check. However, they are under the assumption that I am still working at Oracle. Does anyone know what kind of information oracle provides for an employment background check. Hoping this will not effect my hiring.

Did you receive a severance package? If so, it would have been for a specific number of weeks based on your length of time with the company. Are you within that number of weeks? If so, even though Oracle pays all severance in one check, you might say that your are still within the term of the severance? Its a stretch, but going forward, tell the truth.

Why would you tell your new company that you were still at Oracle when you're not? I think you shot yourself in the foot.

It can really matter if you are laid off. But it depends on who you are interviewing with. People who have been laid off before are more likely to be sympathetic about it. People who have never been laid off, tend to think that it is something that only happens to "other" people who have problems. It just depends.

But you can't get a job by being dishonest, that won't work at all. You should give up on this last employer and move on to others.

@ @T6dvYiA-1ajd: Work on your English skills before you spout off any more negative comments. Many companies know that layoffs are common these days.

You can be honest ,like many people advise here, but a LOT of companies doesn't like to hire people who were previously laid off .

you are automatically screwed. because you were not truthful the new org will look at that very very harshly. Oracle will not provide any intel on why you got cut (by law) but they will give start and end dates. That deal is dead for you. keep applying and just be honest.

I think you will be better off being truthful with any possible employers.

I don't understand why you would not tell them you were laid off. Company restructuring is very common and it should not be a stigma.

I left Oracle before getting laid off, but if I had been RIF'd, I would just be honest about it.

Different companies look for different things even though they all do it through a third party company such as HireRight. In my case, one company did not contact the previous company (i.e, Oracle), while another got all the information: your last date / last title / last salary.

Tell your new prospective employer that you were moved into the basement until the "payroll glitch" was taken care of...

I think they will say you were laid off on such-and-such a date. I don't think you can get around that. Surely, your last date at oracle will be included in any information. But that's just what I think. I have no experience with it as I was not laid off.
