Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

More layoffs and closing today?

After yesterday's carnage are we looking at even more layoffs and closings at Verizon today and next week?

I'm scared that yesterday was just a beginning and that in the next several days I am going to get to work and find the door locked like so many did yesterday.

Yes, as someone else said, retail has been mostly spared. (sorry OS's) There was never a reason to cut many people due to the high rate of turnover. They just waited till someone left and didnt backfill the headcount.

I'm not in retail so don't understand the references to stores changing to indirect, and HBAs, and the new (at least to me) "Visible" company that was bought by Verizon. Can someone please give me a primer?

Wisely stated. Verizon has had mass layoffs each spring for the past five years. It appears the plan is to gut the wireless end and let the in directs takeover many if (ultamtley) not all retail locations

That's not usually how it works. In the recent past, it's always been done at one preset time and I think usually on a Thursday. Store closings are happening really any time though. They do them a few at a time, quietly, over a widespread area so it doesn't attract attention or media. So it's hard to tell. It's not a great time to be in retail. You've been spared for now but they're coming for you too. I'm sorry but that's the truth. Start planning your exit strategy. Get your resume together, start networking, make sure yourlinked in looks good. The time is coming, it's either going to be Verizon's decision or yours.
