Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle layoffs are over

The major RIFs are finished. Remaining employees will be working maintenance or transition to the Cloud. There may be some minor reshuffling in Sales, but the worse is over. Anything else you hear from this board is pure fabrication. Notice how they predict more layoffs but NEVER any details. That's because the predictions come from malcontents within the company and from competitors looking to tear down.

"Layoffs are over" cannot possibly be true. MH and SC are still running the company. They care only about margins and satisfying Wall Street's need for stocks that pay dividends. Cloud revenue growth at Oracle is well short of their competition. Read the earnings report. Expenses are increasing as Oracle must spend money on data centers in order to compete. Revenue for on-premise software and hardware continues to decline. The only answer to maintain margins is to lay off employees, especially experienced higher-paid people. Clearly they are staffing up on lower-paid, younger people and laying off experienced people.

Tech has matured for a generation since the IBM PC hit the market. The complexity and 24/7 nature of our world means no more free IT lunches, literally and figuratively. You need a lot of certs and recent relevant experience in order to get anything decent. Also helps to be under the age of 40. Have no life outside work, and gladly spend off hours with your ‘work family’. I would like to stay in IT and leverage my decades of experience. I can no longer stand the culture of live to work.

If life outside of Oracle was all sunshine and roses people would be falling all over each other to resign. People stay because the salary and benefits are good.

This is b---s--- - you are either clueless or lying.

Ex-Oracleite here (Apps dev). It is true that many are desperate to leave Oracle, but only the top 15-20% have managed to in the last few years that I was keeping track. Getting a similar job in other companies in Silicon Valley is much, much harder now. Oracle's technologies (including ADF, JET) and tools/processes are very out-of-date, and other companies have vastly superior technology that allows them to operate with far fewer engineers. So they are able to pay top dollar and only hire the best.

Everyone I know that left Oracle spent months updating their skills and preparing for interviews, and still found it tough getting through some of the technical interviews at the good Bay Area companies. A few people I know went into consulting or into the IT departments of Oracle's customers (not as hard, but no cakewalk).

So yeah- almost EVERYONE wants to leave from TK's org but only a minority are able to.

I didn't get a raise for several years before I left, and no bonuses either.

If their were any bonuses, I expect they were going to the manager's girlfriend.

"That statement is patently false."

So you say. Just try to back that up with facts.

Oracle used to be a top company in the 2000s where pay and benefits were at the top of the market. Culture was never their strength. While the core benefits package is still pretty good, it isn't industry leading and neither is its compensation.

People leave because of the culture and the lack of hope that the cloud products they are working on will ever amount to anything. People don't like working at sh--ty companies on sh--ty products.

It's that simple.

Those who left to other companies are posting what life is like outside of Oracle and the pay, perks and culture are significantly better.

"That's because the predictions come from malcontents within the company and from competitors looking to tear down."

Nice try.

There isn't some small group of malcontents within Oracle -- it is a large population that has watched their benefits and perks shrink/disappear, seen their pay lose ground to the cost of living, experienced losses of customers, said goodbye to colleagues, struggle with Oracle's lagging products and know that layoffs have been real. Those who left to other companies are posting what life is like outside of Oracle and the pay, perks and culture are significantly better.

MH's love for cutting costs and his love affair with Oracle Digital and the Hubs is evident for all to see. Combine that with the financial statements that show Oracle has set aside money for layoffs and that a significant portion remains means that the next few weeks aren't going to be pleasant for many. Personally, I think that the stories of the entire field organization getting let go are overblown, but it certainly makes sense that attrition and layoffs will be used to try and keep margins (and the stock price) up.

The worst is not over. Next year will be even worse as the cloud sales numbers continue to tank along with on-premise, since it has been abandoned in terms of support and engineering. You may yet get a package, but you could also take control of the situation and get yourself out. Lots of other places to work.

Lots of people in the company are actually HOPING for layoffs. Oracle is a sh--ty place to work and we want Oracle to pay for it.

I would really love this to be true.

Unfortunately is not. At least for the remaining HW and cloud at customer org.

We are already preparing letters and packages. More or less 60% of the current sales/presales org will be gone in the next 6 weeks. And will be a silent massacre, since there will be no public alert whatsoever, and if you want your package you will sign a very strict non disclosure / no proceedings agreement.

It's not my specific dpt, but from what I'm hearing, next FY will be the turn of all remaining onprem sales, starting from App. Tech will be the last one impacted, possibly in FY20.

And this board is the only mean to let people know what's happening.

No, Oracle is by NO MEANS a great place to work, hopefully I will get my package and fly away as soon as possible.

This is nonsense. Do not be confused between total number of employees and layoffs continuing. Restructuring in Pre-Sales will be significant as the shift from the old SC Model and the new Cloud Hub and OD model accelerates. Additional Hub Locations and expansion in Bangalore continues. The ECA team has had a steady stream of departures of the most talented and are not being replaced. Check out hiring and job postings. Senior and experienced are not being hired period. They are flushing the old model. This is why all training and certification for that community was halted. This applies to all senior SC positions as they are being replaced by the Hubster.
