would have expected a leaner HR organisation with this people deal, which means actually no meaningful workload to keep such a huuuuge HR team. However, if you go and take a look, I mean, seriously, HR is the largest org within the company, and they never seem to get any layoffs, I wonder why....

Cisco people deal. My experience since this started:

  • No performance review.

  • No targets for behaviours I need to show to move to the next grade.

  • No idea what I should be doing to move forward and improve in my work.

  • No real instructions of what I should do day to day for work.

  • No indication of where I stand against my peers.

  • No feedback as to things I shouldn’t be doing.

This creates a ‘no f---s given’ attitude from many employees. It also means our products are often late to market, poorly tested with average features. It also means our sales force is not competitive against other vendors for so many reasons.

People Deal = People Definitely Eliminated And Layoff

After being told I was laid off, when they presented me with the severance agreement, two of the things I had to agree with were: 1. Not to attempt to recruit anybody from Cisco for a year after my termination. 2. Not to say anything negative about Cisco.

If Cisco employees are so happy, why are the two points I had to agree to so important for the company to want to enforce>

the sham that is the People Deal has reduced all Cisco employees to basically low paid contractors.

Not having any mutual and grown up method of assessing performance and then planning for employee development in order to improve that performance is surely a complete dereliction of standard HR duty and I believe will eventually bring this company down. From what I see HR are all too entranced by following the latest fashionable trends when they should be doing the simple nuts and bolts of their job. Its a disgrace.

Gotta love an HR process masquerading as transparent, ad-hoc and natural manager-IC discussions that purportedly give the employee a sense for how her manager thinks she is performing. Duplicitous at best. But behind the scenes, we know the REAL PEOPLE DEAL is the almighty 9Block.

Oh no, this site is losing its sense of humor. I was expecting way funnier responses to this HR or comms flak. Like, ask Lawrenceville how they feel.

@T866esb-1pzi. "Cisco is undergoing a shift to a software focus"

But there’s more to it than that. This shift has been going on now for about 7 years and clearly Cisco is failing and cutting heads to keep the quaterly reports looking artifically healthy. Keep paying the SVPs their vast salaries and bonuses, they might get this working by 2025. Maybe.

Take a look at the aquired software comapnies from the last seven years. Have they been successful under new Cisco management? Take a look at Cisco's attempt at cloud. Successful?

I was laid off in September, 2016 and was I was well over the age of 50 as were just about everybody else knew that was laid off. To get our severance package we had to sign an agreement essentially giving up all rights to sue Cisco, etc. Cisco would not reveal the ages and other information regarding the profiles of people laid off until the agreement was signed. Cisco does not care about people and the whole 'People Deal' is nothing but a load of crap. No performance reviews, no idea of where you stand in relation to other people in your group - I mean whoever heard of companies that do that? Not to mention the force ranking Cisco introduced years ago.

Can't get enough of that people deal! Our people are important, never a truer platitude said.

In reality Cisco is a central core of ethically corrupt/narcissistic management types - sweating the orbiting business unit acquisitions for all they are worth.

Cisco is a grat place to work. Passionate, smart people, decent pay, always busy never bored. I wish there was more certainty about the future but they are currently undergoing a shift to a software focus. I feel for those people impacted because there’s no doubt I or a coworker could be one of them at this point. Good people have been affected in our BU. But there’s more to it than that. Cisco employees have a passion for doing good work and I’m happy to work with them. It’s all about whether you’re a glass half full or half empty person. Keep positive, don’t let negative people bring you down. Go Cisco!

people deal = the ability to quietly layoff thousands without a paper trail. we've had numerous layoffs in 2018, not one public announcement.
