Thread regarding Sears layoffs

June layoffs at Sears corporate

I have heard from 2 reliable sources that up to 250 corporate folks to be let go in June. Should be happening soon. In I.T. I heard that each director has to choose 3 people for release and present to HR. I know, drain the swamp. Look, there should be no tears, anyone still working for Sears should absolutely expect this. If it happens, just put emotion on the side, get your resume together and look for another job. A friend of mine said there are a lot of job openings at other companies, at least in I.T. with better pay and benefits. A lot of jobs in downtown Chicago.

Bumped from @TrZVfK8-9xre for info.

I have also heard from several friends about HE conference rooms being booked solid for the 26th. Those of us who have been here for the last 5 years know what that means..... on Tuesday am if you see a meeting with your director or HR on your calendar then the party's over. Good luck to all of you but none of us should be surprised. Even if you survive the bloodbath on Tuesday it's time to think about getting out. At some point in the future there will continue to be layoffs but possibly no severance if they file chapter 7. Could be another Toys-R-Us situation.

HR has blocked pretty much every meeting/conference room on 6/26! It points to something sure!

Look for DM's to be layed off also. Consolidating districts and some DM's to take Kmart and Sears stores. Just like the AP's

Getting mixed information some are saying MT some IMX as MT some saying huge changes in SHC some saying not much impact to SHI. Dates too between 26 and 29 June, but it will happen.

Which departments this time?

@8grs- Correct. the U.S. government, state governements, companies do it all the time.

I worked for the govt years ago and they decided to outsource my job. The company who won the contract hired almost all of us who were in my office. One day I was employeed by the U.S. government the next by the company who won the bid. Same job, same office, same desk just different people writing my check.

@7ofu I don't think you understood what I was saying - the same employees sitting in the same desks can become employees of a third-party outsourcing company, when they had previously been direct employees of Sears India. I don't know if that's what Sears has planned, but it happens all the time.

Who else can they outsource to? The people from India are already hard to understand who can they outsource it to now?

The chat reps are in India, but are employees of an outsourcing company. Maybe Sears plans to move the Indian IT people and phone reps into outsourcing companies too. At reduced staffing/pay/benefits levels, of course.

If SHC India goes it doesn't sound too encouraging for the company as a whole. Doesn't SHC India make up the majority of the IT operations for SHC? They also have a huge call center operation over there, right?

If a company drops a huge part of its IT and call center operations, that's not a good sign. It points to not intending to stick around for much longer.

Sears India is toast by fall. Sept. or OCtober. HE marketing, and IT the next to be cut.

@5wvf

Is it true about Sears India? Worked with some good folks there in the years past. It was known it would come to this but everyone chooses what's right for them.

I hope my ex colleagues in Hoffman, RO, India get to some thing sustainable soon enough.

250 is just the beginning. Buyers, IT, IMX, APP, etc. Anything and anybody that is dead weight or non-essential to a reduce store count and reduced corporate plan will be cut this year. DM's will be reduced as well as regional managers as store are cut and districts are consoledated. Northeast, midwest and mid-atlantic states are the next to feel the cuts.

For those of you who will lose you job, (aside from the fact that there are PLENTY of IT jobs out there, even if your doing antiquated technology) Make sure you retain your severance letter. The razor sharp HR team at SHC persistently "forget" to process your 6 weeks payroll as severance. You will get a letter from your state tax department suing you for fraudulent filing of unemployment. Nice, right? The severance letter you receive will need to be sent to the IRS as proof you were not scamming the system. SHC will kick you more than once!

This is like the evacuation of the Titanic. The ones that stay on will sink with the ship. First class passenger will probably be airlifted.

Been there and done that, trust be life after Sears is so much better! there are so many bigger and better opportunities out there. The inevitable is coming and based on experience my biggest suggestion is to take all your personal belongings home NOW!!! When that day happens oh and it will you don’t want to spend one minute longer at that awful place packing than you have to. Start looking now, the only obvious transformation is Sears closing. All I can say is good luck.

@1rvp I think he or she meant to type SHI (as in Sears Holdings India), but because the "t" in though immediately followed the letters Sh--he filters on this site assumed it was a curse word ("s--t") and conjoined it as "Sh--hough". That's my guess because it's happened to me once or twice while posting here, and I've been on here since 2015.

Historically they do a smaller round in June, and a larger round mid-July. Dust off those resumes.
