Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Tale of two companies

There have been 2 companies called IBM. The first one was founded in 1911 and died in the 1990's. That was the IBM of full employment, unlimited opportunities and a reputation for the finest quality in the world. When that company died a cheap imitation version appeared and tried to steal the old company's employees and reputation, but incomprehensibly bad management pissed it all away in under 20 years. Then they hired Ginni Rometty to fire the fatal shot and bury the corpse.

1991 was the Akers water cooler speech that started the employee revolution.

I remember the IBM of old, was with an AS/400 MAPICS/DB Business Partner from 1990 to 1992 during the Akers collapse. It was failing even then but the rank and file IBMers were top notch people and the salesmen were driven. SAD to see it collapse and collapse and collapse like a black hole getting smaller and smaller.

IBM works hard behind the scenes to keep up appearances, perhaps even paid that company for the ranking.

What is unusual is shareholder complacency because they could have sent Ginni packing with one stroke of the pen in any of the five years of declines.

ranks IBM #5 among "just" companies. Maybe they did not hear about this site. If enough people hit their contact button, they would readjust their algorithm. Then let's see where IBM falls in the ranking.
