Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Inventory ~ softline and store mgrs said to take everything without a tag and throw it in a box.

Not enough time to create tags for it all

We will put the boxes of this in the old photo center room and get around to it after inventory. This situation, It does not seem right to me.

We will hide the KMART tagged items that we were not supposed to get and the mis matched items in it as well.

Mgrs told us to do this since they said that there would not be enough help on the day of inventory, And they don't know how it will go with so few of us working inventory.

Softline mgr said nobody needs to know about it and that It will make the inventory go by faster and smoother.

Yes we don't have enough help but why not try and get as much done as possible with the tags? What we don't do can be a sku check like it's supposed to be done, instead of taking the easy way out and the chance of getting in trouble by the higher up bosses if they find out.

When I made this point to the softline mgr she said if it is a big deal to me than I am on my own and can deal with all of the sky checks by myself since it will happen a lot if we don't find and put the items without tags in boxes away from the inventory.

What the mgr wants to do seems like it would go against the rules and make the shrinkage rate increase for us if I'm not mistaken?

Don't worry, just do as little work as possible, collect your pay check, don't worry or stress AT ALL, the whole company is failing, no need to sweat the details. Just collect your pay while looking for a new job, and do as little work as possible. I used to know people that worked very hard at doing nothing!

The last post was correct, your soft lines manager/lead should instruct you to be going through each fixture and checking for items with missing tickets or maybe even merchandise that doesn’t scan or merchandise from Kmart. First you should try to find the stock number fand make a new scannable tag. Any merchandise you can’t find the stock number for you can use a class control number. You use the division then the stock number is 88888 999 and you give the item a price. What your being told to do is unethical and will make your inventory shorter than what it actually is. Good luck with your decision and your future endeavors I’m sorry to hear that poor management is pushing you out the door

Once you've got your departure paperwork all finished, so the manager can't sabotage somehow it in retaliation, I would really consider reporting the situation. Not much they can do to you at that point, and it might save some of your former coworkers' jobs for a while longer.

@TLuTsWG-2plf Exactly the point if inventory is very bad they can close the store because of it. Very bad inventories can cause a store to close plain and simple.

they will close your store if the inventory is bad enough.

I am the original person who wrote this complaint. I dont think it is a good idea to report them because it will create future problems for me, so i filled out my notice and gave it to them and my last day is next Fri. I didn't want to quit but it seemed like the best choice after thinking about what to do for a couple of days. This is not the only reason., even before talking about the inventory the mgrs were just not great to be around and I can find a better job anyway because this company seems like it is closing down.

When I gave my notice the softline mgr said "this is because of inventory". I denied it of course but yes I don't want to be caught in that mess and I dont want to feel the consicuences of telling on them if they don't get fired or if it takes a long time to do the investigation. I know the headquarters would say we do not accept retaliation but how would they stop it?

I think if i called, here is how it would go down, there would be an investigation and since I really think I am the only one who questioned their ways, they would know I called headquarters on them and it would just make my work life harder. I think it's better to step away from this and let the mgrs take the fall for what they want to do.

Run to phone your DM now. IF your descriptions are accurate your store could set a new record for inventory policy violations. Call now to save your job and others jobs.

@TLuTsWG-nar Yes Operations is in charge of inventory but if you get a really bad inventory people unfortunately lose their jobs. In our district last year a store manager and yes the LP lost their jobs over the bad inventory. They had to bring in regional LP so sort it all out.

Just to correct those wrongly posting - LP doesn’t own inventory. Operations owns it, it’s a reflection of the store. While LP helps to keep shrink down and partners with the store on it, it’s a reflection of the store. Bad number = bad for the store. LP would assist in the inventory investigation when the number comes back, but nobody in LP would get fired whereas a store manager could with high shrink and no answers. Still, report to your Zone/market/regional LP

The store manager might even be hoping to sneak off with some of that merchandise once it gets taken out of inventory. The company systems will already think it was stolen, so why not actually steal some of it at that point (sarcasm).

Let your regional manager of LP know. Look on pebble for the contact information. As others have said, the LP people can get into trouble for a bad inventory but if your store is like my store, management and LP do not work together as they should. If this were my store, management would be hiding this from LP, denying it and making LP take the fall if necessary. That's why going up the chain of command immediately is important.

They should just take the product to RTV and send it to the CRC.

@TLutsWG Definitely let LP know if you can. LP is actually in charge of inventory. Bad inventories have resulted in LP people losing their jobs. I certainly would not want to see that based on your post.

Why would the SM want to hide stuff? Doesnt it look worse on the store? Not having scanned all the items will show a bigger loss which means it will have a higher chance of just plain closing.

Let LP know. A bad inventory is a bad reflection on LP as well as the store.

Call 88Sears ASO... on second thought never mind, they are a waste of payroll. They end up getting back to you months later or they tell you to call your district manager or HR. Why are they there? Useless.

"I would bring that hiding stuff up to your store manager"

re-read subject line - the store manager is in on it

It's not only a sure fire way to screw up your shrink number, it's also a violation of company policy, and ethically wrong.

I would call the ethics hotline if I cared, which I don't.

When is your inventory scheduled?

Our Sears is 3 rd week in July

We have a few boxes of stuff too but we put a bin label on item with 88888 999. We do this on say a pair of socks that are missing the other 5 pr of socks

Seems like they are waiting longer than usual for inventory prep than even last year

I know in years past they told MCAs at the time to not throw away tags found on the floor, to keep them and have a cashier to process as tag without item, I guess like theft

We once has a soft line supervisor hide a huge box of zeros way up on top shelf in our large stock room, and later when they discovered it, well... she was fired

I would bring that hiding stuff up to your store manager or your LP person as it doesn’t sound right and since you “know” about it you could possibly get in trouble. Or call corporate and have them answer as to what to do

One of the major problems with My Sears store there is NO communication...NONE

I dread inventory... the only good thing is that early in the morning when it all starts the store will have air conditioning on for Regis... heaven forbid they sweat like we do until the air comes on right at store opening.. that used to be about 20 minutes before the doors opened now it’s right at 10
