Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

How is it done?

Just wondering, since I'm rather new here. How are layoffs done at Southwestern?

Is it a phone call? Are you called in for a meeting?

How much time are you given after being notified to collect your stuff (if you are given any time at all?)

I'd appreciate any info.

Everyone, please do yourself a huge favor and prepare yourself emotionally for the "Big Day". It is coming. It may be this week or not but for sure it's very soon. Don't be that guy that still have all your personal effects in your office/cubicle as if you're safe. Assume you're gone but continue to do your work the best you can. After all, you are still getting paid to do your job regardless of the looming situation. Be professional. Don't embarrass yourself by creating a drama scene. Be ready mentally and emotionally. Get all your personal crap out now. Don't wait until that day. This way, you can just leave, never look back and move on to the next chapter of your life. Good luck to all of us!

Please let it be this Thursday, I'm tired of management dragging this out and acting like nothing is going on or nothing is going to happen...quit with the fake small talk and fake smiles. This is why good people are gone, there is no honest between employees and mgmt. Management use to care and they've forgotten that our hard work is what made SWN great at one time, now they are out for themselves only. What happen to them once being "transparent" with us? Distant memories of an employer I was once proud of, now I'm here at my desk catching myself contantly looking at this site to get any news, any updates of when it all ends...sad times. Our source shouldn't be here, it should be all the many team leads, supervisors, managers, hr heads, instead we all resort to here cause we are mere numbers nowadays with no voice at SWN. Good luck to all, and again just get it over with management. Rumors have killed SWN.

An update will be provided on how it is actually done when the “big” layoff is done this Thursday. Glad to get rid of the excess in “HQ” and even more so for the FS. Both are long overdue by at least two years if not longer. Buh bye from your NE team!!!

They bring you into a conference room, and the first thing you'll notice is that there are no managers in the room. The only person sitting at the table is a co-worker that just received the news that they were laid off. Your fellow co-worker reads from a prepared speech that informs you that you have been laid off. You then find out that one of the conditions of your severance package is that you have to tell the next person that comes into the room that they've been laid off too. Your coworker leaves the room, and then the next victim enters. And so it goes until the last person has been laid off.

What people are running around today in Houston? Managers? Facilities?

Lots of movement on Damascus yard in the past week or so. Just speculation but with everything that has been going on we might be looking at a layoff packaged with a sale announcement of Fayetteville as well.

In Houston, all of the interns are told to wait at home on Wednesday and a Thursday for company provided transportation away from SWN. People are running around here today (Friday) that are not supposed to be here. And the personal effects boxes have arrived, ready for distribution. I think Fred missed it - not Thursday July 19th, but Wednesday June 27th

Well, my getting let go story is just as embarrassing, so here goes. What the heck! After meeting my millennial buddies in the Market, I went upstairs to my work station, and felt a grumbling down there. Made my way to the facilities, and in mid cable lay, the bosses came in the restroom looking for me. They looked at my shoes and determined it was me. I was told to “hurry up” and get back to my work area. To be honest, I stayed in there a while longer. Wasn’t sure what to do. I eventually made my way out and was given “the speech” and handed my severance. Walked out. That’s my final memory of Southwestern Energy, a dump. Go figure.

It probably has a lot to do with how sensitive the material you were working on is. They’re not going to risk someone in exploration getting everything off their computer before they go.

Hint: It is best not to have a lot of stuff to collect when you are let go. Lessen your load by taking it home before the sh*t hits the proverbial fan.

HR tells how it should be done, but your VP or upper management of your division/group can kinda do what they want. Direct managers dont have much flexibility or are willing to rock the boat for your sake.

Curious to know why some departments laid off employees differently...any insight appreciated. Is that a direct supervisor's decision or HR's decision? Seems like a bunch of snakes work in management at SWN and I bet their still there collecting their big salaries.

My 2016. Got the email as I got out of the car about layoffs. Once i saw 40% i knew no one was safe. Saw an early riser walking out the building saying he got cut. Sat at my desk and starting getting IMs about who was getting cut. Saw some really talented people get cut and I started thinking, if they are cutting all these good people, do I even want to stay? We could login in unlike land and accounting. Everyone was just waiting on your phone to ring. After about 3 hours, I was like oh well, I guess i better get back to work. Then my phone rings. It was a VP asking me to come to the conference room. That was it. VP said s---s to cut good people but that its comforting knowing you will get a job quickly. I hitched a ride to work that day with a friend so I was sent downstairs to have one of the security personnel give me a ride home. My boss was cool and said since Friday is 9/80. You can come back and pack your things tomorrow. So my story is a good one, but others had more of a nightmare. I just wish I didnt have to sit there for 4 hours wasting my day away. I remember thinking: I wasted half a day when i could have had some time off. Little did I know, I would have PLENTY of time off the next few months.

In 2016, I heard about the SWN massive layoff on my truck radio as I cruised into work. When I tried to enter the garage, my EZ Tag did not work. When I tried my badge, it did not work. At that point, I knew what was coming. I was let in when I called them on the intercom. I noticed a lot more vehicles in the garage than was usual for that time of morning. When I got inside the building, I was given access to elevators at tower two. When I arrived at my office, my supervisor was waiting for me. He did a quick presentation, had me sign some papers and then I gathered up a few items and departed the building without a job, but with my chin tilted upward. The whole episode took about 45 minutes. It was surreal.

That's true about the land department. I was laid off in that manner, it was embarrassing, but I'm better off not working there. It was a blow, but God creates away for you to bounce back. I would have preferred to leave the company with dignity and not everyone in my business and showing pity on me.

In 2016 Corp Land embarrassed those laid off, they got to their desks and if you weren't able to login to your desktop, you were outta here! What made it worse was that those who were laid off had to stick around until sorry mgmt gave them their severance! It was heartless and those of left behind felt crappy to even do work while your coworker next to you was crying!!!! I knew then what kind of company SWN truly was! I'm hoping they learned NEVER to do that again! I'm still amazed HR allowed that! Shame on SWN!

No warning! You'll know that the Big Day has arrived when as soon as you enter the building, there will be police officers and HR reps to meet you. If your name is on the list, you will not even be allowed to go to your office to collect your items. You will be herded into the conference room, sign some papers and off you go! Unfortunately, that's the best and safest way to part with the company. No drama upstairs with your co-workers and all that mess that comes with getting let go. Show some civility and leave the workplace with your head held high with dignity. I know this because I witnessed it in 2016. Good luck to all!
