After severance be prepared to pay a hefty amount for cobra. It was too expensive for me and they consider that a retirement benefit? Starting looking into alternatives for insurance now while you are getting it from the bank.
Read your severance package carefully. I believe you have normal benefits for the length of your severance period. You would then qualify for 18 months of Cobra at your expense.
