Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Target Takeover FS

Target will acquire most CVS front stores as this was the long term deal with CVS acquiring Target RX. CVS eliminating FS business allows for a more 'health' focus with buying Aetna and is a strategic business solution for the future of CVS. FS business is dying. Healthcare on the rise. Target has a better understanding of FS business. DL will be over just pharmacys soon which explains the desire to have licensed DLs who have no experience with the dying FS.

It would be interesting to see if there was something going on like this. I know we have gotten a couple of replacement receipt printers and the mailing label had them coming from Target which I found odd.

Good point. You know the CVS pharmacists inside Target cannot recommend any Target brand OTC items? They can’t even pick it up off the shelf. So if a customer asks about Targets private label version of NyQuil, they hand them NyQuil. I think there is a lot of misconception about this deal. The reality is Target treats the CVS the same as they do the Starbucks inside Target. CVS Employees are not allowed to use Target employee break rooms or bathrooms. It is not a partnership. We are simply tenants.

The target agreement was to build 30 Target Express with CVS Pharmacy inside. There was just a leadership meeting a few weeks ago and the rumor of Target take over was discussed and put to bed. My opinion is CVS will never give up their brand name front store products there is too much margin. I'm sure Target will not put it's name on a building that doesn't sell their own brand.

Definitely all rumor and no facts. I can tell you this from a common sense standpoint. CVS grew through many acquisitions. We are a company with hugely varying box sizes and have at least a dozen different store layouts. In contrast, Walgreens grew by opening or relocating store to meet a consistent design throughout their chain. Not by trying to convert and cram their design into old Eckerds, Revco, Arbor etc stores. As a result CVS is like the Frankenstein of store layouts. Targets may vary in square footage, but they maintain only a few layout designs. They are essentially rectangular boxes with no obstructions, parking issues, basements/ mezzanines, or a hundred other unique attributes CVS’ have from store to store. In short, Target has NO interest in taking over our patchwork retail footprint.

The rumor included that CVS wanted Target to take over FS before the end of the year.

There hasn't been any actual documentation to back up the rumors, just coincidences and events and hearsay.

Got to wait and see what happens as there are more things changing.

We will have to wait and see. I would be excited for it. If it's true I hope it's the right move.

I don’t see how it would work there are like 6 CVS’s and 2 Targets in a 20 mile radius of me. People need various drug store items, yes they can buy various things from amazon but they don’t always want to. I think the front store model will survive, it may downsize of course.
