DELL-EMC: workforce reduction facts...

According to Forbes:

In 2016 (pre-acquisition data):

  • EMC had 72,000 employees: https://www.forbes.com/companies/emc/

  • Dell had 140,000 (source does not say if this includes ex-EMC employees, I would guess not): https://www.forbes.com/companies/dell/

Total: 212,000 employees.

In a recent meeting, we were told that Dell-EMC's total workforce is currently about 110,000 employees.

No matter how one may look at it, the effective workforce reduction ranges anywhere between 30,000 and 110,000 employees since since the acquisition.

I have always heard a 150,000 headcount but exits in certain business units continues. Sales forces are getting weeded out as Dell has established sales teams in many bigger businesses and EMC sales teams are simply redundant. it is probably easier for Dell teams to learn and sell the EMC SKUs than for EMC teams to learn to resell the Dell SKUs.

There is little doubt that MD is going to outsource every North American job he can outsource. IBM has done the same thing and if you have a job in North America you are on your way to becoming a unicorn. The problem is software products coming from abroad is marginal at best in many business units. And communication between NA offices and foreign offices is slow, confused and often meaningless.

140k pre-emc included dell services ( former Perot), Quest software, Sonicwall and other units which Dell sold off before merging with EMC. So the numbers had got much smaller for Dell. Just FYI...

Interesting: it was possible to infer a number much lower than 136k. Maybe this did not include everybody ... if they weren't part if the statistics ( may be temps, new hirees, contractors, etc... ).

the reported Dell headcount of 140K includes the EMC count of 70K. The headcount now is at 136K

depends on the definition. Does this include temps? the first 240k includes temps obviously. the second 110k does not include temps. we have a f---ton of temps.

yup me too, I left before the merger. I kept tabs of my old office and out of the office of 22 people only 6 are left in that office today.
