Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Thoughts on Supreme Court decision on e-commerce sales tax?

I was just wondering what people here thought about the Supreme Court's decision to allow states to collect e-commerce sales tax despite those shops not having a physical presence in a state?

Is this going to help brick-and-mortar stores regain some of the shoppers as prices online will now go up?

I personally see it as a good thing. But I guess we'll have to wait and see if it really is...

@xri And if you get a Redcard, Target will ship you almost anything for free, with no membership fee.

It's really just the states wanting to collect sales tax from online purchases, so those who purchase online will get a tax increase. My sister works for the state and says they are the laziest workers around, so not a very efficient use of your money. The state and federal governments are really just money grubbing entities. If they were efficient I wouldn't mind, but that is hardly the case. But no, I don't see the Supreme court ruling resurrecting the ailing brick and mortar businesses.

Amazon has been charging sales tax in our state for years but that has not stopped me from buying most of my stuff on Amazon. Convenience, easy price comparison, free delivery, no waiting in line, no parking hassle, no traffic. Walmart, Target and Costco with their free shipping are also good.

We have been paying tax on most of our amazon purchases already . But I do believe it will effect some brick and mortar sales but only those stores that still have a customer base. If your customer base is gone its not because you charge tax on your sales.

NO!!!! Never happen I shop online to avoid parking hassles, waiting in line

to chkout, unhelpful in store associates, etc... etc... so... why bother when

I can compare items from a multitude of online retailers and pick the best one

to order from, sales tax doesn't even play a role in decision of where to buy from

I shop online for the convenience. I get so sick of walking into a retail store and hearing "we don't have it but we can order it for you and have it for you to pick up in a week." No thanks, I can order it myself and have it to my door in 2 days. I might even pay a little extra for that convenience most of the time.

Plus Walmart and Target will both get me most anything they sell in their stores in 2 days, free shipping if I spend over around $40 which isn't hard to do these days.

Most large sites have been anyway since they have a physical presence in most states.

Sears isn't coming back if that's what you think.
