More details on Oracle Java layoffs

Former employees are starting to talk.

There seems to be a lack of understanding at upper management layers on why Java platform development within the product org actually is important and linked to future revenue.

You also now have to pay a subscription if you want to use Java. You used to be able to use the JDK for free and download new versions for free. Not any more.

The support organization for Java generates revenue...

Anyone know how much? Maybe I'm naive, but I can't see it being a significant portion of revenue. Not sure why a language/environment that's fully documented and well established would need "support" for most organizations. I expect the vast majority of those using Java just deal with the various iterations of the product as is, wait for bugs to be fixed, etc.

Am I wrong?
