Thread regarding Sears layoffs

It's time to unionize. ..

Lost holiday pay...cut hours...every move is going against the welfare of the workers.

It's not hard to do and you have Nothing to lose....

@TPUHHd4-uav Exactly what I do I don't fix things I can fix. Hell sometimes I will be blunt to the customer and tell them its cheaper at ours competitors (because its truth). I help in what I can I just do the basics its a way to actually fight back the system that they created. Ever since SST came into play it was basically a way to exploit us more than ever. You have to fight back and prove your ground. I am happy to see how some actually (like you for example) do as little as possible sine its not like we get paid well.

Just to add every damn meeting when the manager comes and says that he needs everyone to help out yet I never see him pitch in to help us out. He just bosses you (and he does it in a d*ck move) which gives you more of a reason to not even try. In our store a lot don't try and I like it I put in the word why even bother why even try not like we get rewarded if we do super good now adays.

Some Sears departments ( service, maintenance , automotive) were Unionized in parts of the country years ago. Advantages were few over regular full time non union employees, including extra overtime benefits, structured pay increases and protection against over zealous management on occasion.

In the end, they all met their demise, and it didnt matter Union or non Union. You can't milk a dead cow. Any skilled trades moved on.

Too late for a union. 40 years ago maybe when it wasn't top heavy with part time help.

But back then Sears actually wasn't a bad place to work and paid a living wage

Good luck with that.....

The only thing a union is interested in is the pension fund and collecting dues.

I don't understand how unionizing would help anything. You can't close the barn door after the horse is gone.

A union NEVER prevented a company from going out of business, filing for bankruptcy, or eliminating employees

So what's your point!!!

Agree with everyone saying it's too late. The time would have been the moment before things started to go down hill permanently. Before that Sears was actually a decent company to work for & the employees didn't need the extra hassle of being in a union. One of the times to unionize could have been right after the merger with Kmart. So many employees then and this could have set the tone for a new future. There would have been resistance though. Not only from the new SHC but the employees themselves. As we have seen, Sears and Kmart employees are a loyal bunch who want to believe in their employer.

A union will not do any good for a company facing bankruptcy.

Maybe only for a setback to decent commisions, minimum staffing levels, a cut of the sale of the buildings and healthcare improvements.

But no one would.

@aai yep, I don’t care either.

I don’t fix ad signs I see that are wrong or expired, going to stop requesting missing signs on ad day, going to look the other way when I see something in the ground especially when I know the store manager has walked past it several times

I’m just wondering how bad it will get before they pull the plug

5 years ago maybe a union cd have helped but I think it’s far to late for that now

I will give you a better option OP and anyone that sees this boards. Just stop caring and do as little as possible as you can. They keep cutting hours, benefits (the remaining few) than stop trying. The times I see things I can fix I don't fix them because at this point I don't care. If they don't care about me why should I care about the company.

No union would touch a SHC employee. Not enough hours to collect union dues, not enough employees to make it worth the hassle and paperwork, most workers now are teens and twenty somethings who will move on to better things soon, SHC is on the verge of collapse.

Around 10 years too late for this idea.

That ship has sailed. It's impossible for that to happen. Most employees wouldn't agree to that. Second it's not enough money to organize a union. When you getting less than twenty hours a week the last thing you want to do is hand out more money. Good thought should've been done years ago
