Sears just laid off 200 employees at their Hoffman Estates HQ

Ten-ish more stores announced closing yesterday. They're starting to get closer and closer to home...
Unfortunetly, more cuts coming in July. It will come in waves until the end of the year. They can only process a few hundred workers at a time for severance, unemployment. they dont want to bog down the system with too many layoffs at one time.
Average length working for a company is something like 4.4 years with older workers staying put longer and younger people in their 20s job hopping more. Unfortunately in my experience, Sears has become nothing to brag about. The slow demise of the company has been very public over many many years now. The general perception of Sears is negative.
Fortunately people can and do find jobs after working for Sears and truthfully Sears excels or excelled at certain things that will help you elsewhere.
@2xrv Guess it could be kind of interesting but is probably similar to the rest of the world today. I think if you can get someone to work for 1-2 years at a company, that is average today. And obviously if people are leaving of their own chosing and getting other jobs then working at Sears isn't considered negative or they wouldn't get a job someplace else right?
I would be interested in knowing how many employees have left on their own in the past say...4 years vice layoffs. I can only imagine that working for SHC these days is not much of a resume builder...
Wow, 2784 views on this thread! That just shows how important this site is to the associates of SHLD to obtain pertinent information. I wonder how many views a thread on Pebble gets? LOL
The three posts below are true. My friend at Sears said they are trying to lease out the extra space / buildings and consolidate Sears employees.
I know someone who drives by our headquarters 2 to 3 times a week and yes his company has been approached about leasing space at our headquarters. He said others have been approached as well. It would make sense since they are leasing out store space why not headquarter space also?
They won't move to a new campus. But they can certainly consolidate buildings, and seek tenants. That would be wise for them to do.
I wonder if Eddie is going to move the workforce to a smaller building and lease out HE to other companies? If we are really around 2,000 or less it could be done.
I'm guessing they will keep a handful of large revenue stores and go all online with some store pickup centers for bigger items.
@TR2kZXa-1omz I am also surprised this hasnt been on the media yet I think they are waiting to confirm everything on before they publicly mention it.
The only reason Eddie is CEO is to control the collapse. Picking the bones. What a POS.
SHC doesn’t have a turn around plan. They just keep cutting and turning assets into cash to feed their negative cashflow.
Those 200 people are better off in the long run.
@1ffz #1 You don't know sh-- about what IMX does. #2 They lost 5-10 people yesterday.
IMX is the untouchable team within Sears Holdings Organization. Our team used them one time to do the UI for our web application and were charged $40K of their "times". It was 1/3 of our budget. They just sit around drawing picture and picking colors for our web site. They don't even code CSS.
@1omz - I don't think it makes for news anymore and is the norm.
Anyone see the layoff reported anywhere? Or is laying off a couple hundred people such the norm now that even the Chicago Tribune doesn't pick it up?
Hater huh? I left Sears before the ship goes down but many of my friends are still there. Just didn’t have time to post more. But as you can see by now, it wasn’t b---s---. So who is the hater here?
The first two replies to this thread said: store ops, SYW, IMX, and analytics.
What other departments were affected?
@1tkb Trying to turn website/app 'designs', created in Photoshop by people who don't program, into functional programming is often nightmarish.

I thought SYW was the future of the company? how could anyone get laid off from there?
@cjn so true!! The number of management do nothings is rediculous in store level too
WHat is IMX?
How many are in Dearborn?
what is imx?
What Eddie and his Cronies need to do is start cutting upper Management. Pathetic how top heavy management is. All they do is sit around their homes, calling it their office and B.S. with each other. Why don't you simply close your doors and call it quits. What a joke of a company.. I should have known better when I was hired. My Regional APP Manager reinforced that fact not to worry about the Logistics side, there won't be any lay-offs. (Another lie) SO you well informed Managers, wait until your shrink sky rockets because you've cut back so hard on SCAPP managers, cause it's going to happen. And if anyone thinks that the Regional SCAPP managers are going to do anything...guess again..
Let go from IMX today. Dearborn offices.

An Update on Our Transformation
As we work to advance our strategic transformation, we all know that we must return the company to profitability in order to retain the confidence of our constituents. This means continuing to look at ways to streamline our operations while staying focused on our Best Members, Best Categories and Best Stores.
Today, we made the very difficult decision to eliminate a number of positions across various business units and roles. While these changes didn't impact a large percentage of our workforce, your leadership team and I want you to know that these decisions were not taken lightly or easily. We are grateful for the contributions of these associates and we are committed to treating them with compassion and respect during this challenging time, including offering severance and outplacement assistance to make career transitions easier for all who are eligible.
Having co-workers and friends leave the organization is never easy, but making changes like these are a necessary part of creating a stronger organization in this time of industry disruption. We continue to fight every day to improve the performance of Sears Holdings — and you are central to that effort. I ask everyone to remain focused on the OKRs you set for the quarter as your goals can have a direct impact on our company’s transformation. By building meaningful relationships with our members — who look to us for our brands, our services and convenience — we can drive sales and put our company on the right path for the future.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Sears Holdings.
IT mentioned about 250 logins were deleted today.
Got laid off today. Got 10 weeks severance. I was part of the SYW org.
@TR2kZXa-xsq Is actually quite a number as someone mentioned if thats 10 percent its less people working on the task. Honestly day isnt over and I am sure next month more cuts are coming.
10% layed off if theres 2000 at hof sounds right.
That is an old article. Listen to the video said stock was $36.
Awesome story from 2014 bro.
If there were 2000 I would be surprised. Parklots closed, Levels of parking decks closed (and still not close to being full). Cafeteria basically non existent
