Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Marketing Layoff

Feeling kind of down and angry today. I'm a member in marketing that has been with this company for 10+ years and have worked my butt off to gain this position. I have built so many relationships and based my career path with this company but regional and everyone in power seems to act like this has no effect on the sign makers.

To know that my position duties will be given to SSS and an outside company is disrespectful. Especially when they dont even have the decency to let us help teams better prepare and be properly trained. People work so hard to get where they are for what? So they can be laid off, stepped all over and dismissed like they never existed. This company that has lost their values.

Useless just like you taking time to comment negative thoughts here.

You will be okay! I’m sure you can find something way better with all your skills you’ve received in Whole Foods. Keep your head up!

Anybody that thinks the labor dollars for marketing and signs is going back to he store is being mislead, with every layoff those dollars plus additional are being removed. My store had 300 plus full time employees ten years ago and now has 90 doing double the sales. Whole Foods is moving to a traditional retail model where only store team leaders and above make any money. The store team leaders in my region now have to work at any store. No more having your own store, I would bet eventually they may manage two or more stores

My okd signmaking gig turned into a side gig. I do menus, signs, and murals for restaurants and small businesses all over my city. And its just a side gig in addition to my FT job. What i learned and acquired while with WFM for 6 years gave me the experience and adaptability to take on new roles in light induatrial warwhouse administration and balance that witha PT freelance art gig. Its what tou make it kids. I wilk be forever grateful I got laid off in 2015 as a graphic artist. I make more per hour starting in my new job than i did after 6 years of reviews and promotions. Day ONE benefits. 401k+pension. 8% match. And additional 2% if you

Elect max (ie: id you elect 8%of pay...theyll maych 10%)..,no vesting period. 3 Weeks paid vacay. 10 holidays +2 floating. Unimited OT during peak season. And guaranteed fiscal sales bonuses.

I mean really..some ....companies know how to get it done.attract talent and respect it. The industry im in now will never plummet in my lifetime. So id say im fairly secure until i choose to retire.

Thanks WFM for the experience and BS titles that came along with it...bc it actually gave me a real opportunity to grown and flourish XD

Yes be grateful and see it as a stepping stone. Many people work in a tracery store until retiring age

Just be glad you now have more skills and a portfolio of work to show for it. Instead you could have been pushing carts or something. You’ve got to look it as a challenge and remember nothing is promised. Also, “sign maker” talents can be used better in places other than in the back of a grocery store.

Sadly the signmakers will quickly be forgotten since turnover is high and stores are filling with new faces. In a few months or so half the store wont even know there was such a position.

Jeez... there are some really sh--ty people that post on here. Kinda goes with the state of our country since that a-hole became president...

Like the one NICE poster replied, I, too, am sorry for all of those affected by the layoffs. It totally feels like a betrayal, and that really hurts.

Use those skills you have acquired, and put them to good use! Use your imagination to find a way to change direction and you will find something even better!

Again, I am sorry you are going through this and I wish you the best!

You cant blame the marketing team for being the sh-- show that they are. They were built on a sh--ty foundation. Most of these buggers are going to leave unprepared for a very real job market. I feel sorry for them...NOT. I hated those marketing skumbags when I worked for whole foods. Bunch of entitled cry babys. Oh wow..Youre still crying? What a surprise.

Get a real job.

The writing has been on the wall for a REALLY long time. If your lost your job and you’re unprepared it’s your own damn fault.

Think about the former Demo Specialists... those that chose to remain have to watch the outsourced dummies do their jobs... and they are TERRIBLE.... we can't agree with the changes... but so long as we are still at WFM, you just roll with it.

Sorry you feel this way. It is especially hard to of committed yourself and then feel toss aside. I can only relate it to a great long term relationship where the other party changes and you’re left wondering what happened. The signs were there but you still wanted to believe it could work out.

Be proud of your achievements and move on to a place that will value you. They simply don’t know what they don’t know. They probably don’t even have the captivity to understand since most leading this have only been here only briefly.

Grieve the old Whole Foods, this is an entirely different beast.
